Messi earned a combined 38.4% of the vote, while Columbus Crew attacker Cucho Hernandez finished second (33.70%) and Portland Timbers star Evander placed third (9.24%). DC United\u2019s Christian Benteke and Messi\u2019s Inter Miami teammate Luis Suarez finished fifth. <\/p>\n
The Argentine star led MLS with 36 goal contributions (20 goals, 16 assists), which is ranked as fifth-highest single-season total in league history. He only featured in 19 matches due Copa America involvement and injuries throughout the season. <\/p>\n
The Herons registered an astonishing 12-1-6 regular season record in MLS matches that Messi started in. <\/p>\n
