{"id":810136,"date":"2024-12-04T22:45:09","date_gmt":"2024-12-05T04:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/04\/kier-gets-green-light-for-birmingham-office-build\/"},"modified":"2024-12-04T22:45:09","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T04:45:09","slug":"kier-gets-green-light-for-birmingham-office-build","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/04\/kier-gets-green-light-for-birmingham-office-build\/","title":{"rendered":"Kier gets green light for Birmingham office build"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"390\" src=\"https:\/\/emap-romulus-prod.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/12\/brum.jpg\"   alt=\"brum.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Kier Property has secured consent for a 10-storey office block within the \u00a3500m Arena Central scheme in Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p>The developer\u2019s 49 metre-tall 5 Centenary Square scheme was granted planning permission by the city council\u2019s planning committee.<\/p>\n<p>It updates a consent granted three and a half years ago with amendments to \u201cbetter suit the current market\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>These include changes to the central core of the building; reconfiguration and extension of its reception; and relocation of cycle facilities to allow access from the street.<\/p>\n<p>A cafe or shop has been added to the south-east corner of the proposed block, while glazed spandrels have been added to the base of many windows to reduce solar glare.<\/p>\n<p>Two shades of precast concrete will be used to differentiate the two intersecting sections of the building.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme forms part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/kier\/\">Kier<\/a> Property\u2019s \u00a3500m Arena Central development bounded by Bridge Street and Holliday Street in Birmingham city centre.<\/p>\n<p>Planning officers said development of the plot at 5 Centenary Square for office use was \u201cconsistent with local and national policy and the design principles of the Arena Central masterplan\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>They added that the proposed building retained the character of the previous permission and was acceptable regarding visual amenity and the impact on the setting of nearby heritage assets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe proposed changes when compared to the previous scheme granted consent in 2021 seek to update the building design to better suit the current market,\u201d said officers in a report.<\/p>\n<p>Councillors approved the scheme last week.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Kier Property has started demolition work on a large industrial scheme at Michigan Drive in Milton Keynes that it secured consent for this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Salford-headquartered Kier \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/cn100-2024-turnover-up-profit-down-as-inflation-bites-12-09-2024\/\">third largest contractor in the UK on turnover<\/a>, as well as a developer \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/kier-and-bam-win-spots-on-1-4bn-wales-frameworks-25-11-2024\/\">recently scooped spots<\/a> on two major building frameworks worth a combined \u00a31.4bn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/kier-gets-green-light-for-birmingham-office-build-03-12-2024\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n Greg Pitcher<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kier Property has secured consent for a 10-storey office block within the \u00a3500m Arena Central scheme in Birmingham.
