Only one week after launching, it\u2019s being beat by last-gen GPUs on bestseller charts, and reports suggest Nvidia could pause production to keep the price stable.<\/p>\n

Wccftech reported<\/a> that an update posted on the Chinese Board Channel forums says Nvidia could temporarily halt production in order to \u201cmaintain a stable price system.\u201d It\u2019s hard to say if Nvidia will actually pause production or not. Inventory and sales numbers are rarely shared, so it\u2019s important to handle a forum post like this with some skepticism.<\/p>\n

Even without the forum post, it\u2019s clear RTX 4070s aren\u2019t flying off the shelves. The card doesn\u2019t appear until the seventh position on Amazon\u2019s Best Sellers list<\/a>, and is being beat out by AMD\u2019s RX 580 \u2014 a card that released over six years ago. The situation is even worse at Newegg<\/a>, where the RTX 4070 doesn\u2019t show up in the first three pages of bestsellers (around 60 GPUs) despite several models being available at list price.<\/p>\n

In Germany, TechEpiphany says that the card is doing slightly better. In a weekly report of sales, the RTX 4070 topped the charts, but only narrowly over AMD\u2019s last-gen RX 6600. Since then, the account reports<\/a> that sales have skyrocketed for the card in Germany, with it leading the sales charts for last week.<\/p>\n

Although sales could be ramping up in some parts of the world, it doesn\u2019t seem the RTX 4070 has had a big impact in the U.S. Rumors point to plans at Nvidia to offer rebates<\/a> to board partners on the card. And since launch, multiple models that were selling above list price have since dropped down to list price.<\/p>\n
Even with reportedly poor sales, it\u2019s unlikely the price of the RTX 4070 will tumble. Rumors point to Nvidia launching an RTX 4060 Ti<\/a> in May, which, according to some reports, will run $450.<\/p>\n
We gave the RTX 4070 a positive review, but many have struggled to get a grip on its price. The card launched at $600, despite the previous-generation RTX 3070 launching at $500. The card only provides a minor generational uplift, too, matching the RTX 3080 for around $100 less, but losing out to AMD\u2019s RX 6950 XT<\/a>. Instead, the card heavily leans on Nvidia\u2019s impressive DLSS 3 technology<\/a>, offering stellar performance in small list of supported games.<\/p>\n

Cyberpunk 2077’s long-awaited Overdrive feature is here. Announced alongside the Nvidia RTX 4090, the new ray tracing mode brings full path tracing to the world of Night City — and it looks incredible. It’s also extremely demanding, and although there’s some argument that the visual improvements are worth it, after testing it myself, the new ray tracing mode doesn’t feel like a reason to go out and buy a new graphics card.<\/p>\n
Path tracing is essentially the hard way of doing ray tracing, and it’s only possible now with the immense power of current-gen GPUs and some crafty AI frame generation. So if you don’t have access to the latest and greatest, you can’t turn on the feature.
