MediaTek has announced that its flagship Dimensity line of mobile SoCs has gone Auto with a new range of computing solutions for next-gen vehicles. It challenges Qualcomm’s latest offerings for the same industry pretty directly, purporting to cover the needs of the “smart cockpit” and connectivity on the road as well as automatic driver assistance systems (ADAS), delivered through the OEM’s cutting-edge architecture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

MediaTek<\/a> has acted on its realization that “the era of intelligent, always-connected vehicles<\/a> has arrived<\/i>” with the launch of a machine learning\/vision<\/a>-capable “scalable…multi-processor<\/i>” platform for next-gen cars, developed to port the Dimensity<\/a> name to the automotive industry.\n<\/p>\n

On that note, it also packs MiraVision<\/a> technology, rated to put up-to-8K\/120Hz<\/a> HDR screens in a car, as well as multiple “HDR-native<\/i>” cameras<\/a>. That prospect is part of the new\u00a0Dimensity Auto Cockpit<\/a> solution, which patently challenges Qualcomm’s latest\u00a0Snapdragon Ride<\/a> analog for the title of “world\u2019s fastest smart cockpit<\/a><\/i>“.\n<\/p>\n

To this end, it is based on a 3nm<\/a> processs, as opposed to 4nm in Qualcomm’s case. It could be installed alongside Dimensity Auto Connect<\/a> which, again, directly targets the Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF Gen 2<\/a> with support for Wi-Fi 7<\/a>; GNSS; sub-6GHz<\/a> 5G; Bluetooth, and MediaTek’s 5G NTN<\/a> tech for satellite connectivity.\n<\/p>\n

Dimensity Auto Drive has also been unveiled to apply the potential of MediaTek’s APUs <\/a>to AI-enhanced ADAS<\/a>. Finally, MediaTek assures auto-makers that it will not leave peripherals hanging with a “diverse<\/i>” range of Dimensity Auto Components<\/a> such as “assured…PMIC<\/a> solutions<\/i>“,\u00a0integrated display support that might extend to the use of flexible OLED<\/a> and positioning systems touted to stay on, even out of the reach of satellites.\n<\/p>\n

In short, the new platform seems to be capable of making a car as smart as a cutting-edge mobile device<\/a> – there is even a “dedicated DSP<\/a> for microphone audio<\/i>“. MediaTek<\/a> has yet to estimate when the first Dimensity Auto-powered car will be on the road.\n<\/p>\n
