by Sega Sammy is nearing a deal to acquire Angry Birds<\/em> developer Rovio Entertainment, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke with The Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n The sources say the deal could be done by early next week as long as talks don’t break down or drag on.\u00a0<\/p>\n Angry Birds\u00a0<\/em>was one of the first big mobile hits with the original released in 2009. It was the first mobile game to top one billion downloads and as of last year the game catalog for Rovio surpassed five billion downloads.<\/p>\n Rovio was founded in 2003 in Helsinki, Finland and currently has studios based in Espoo,\u00a0<\/span>Stockholm,\u00a0<\/span>Copenhagen\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Montreal. The developer has expanded the Angry Birds<\/em> IP with several TV series and two films.<\/span><\/p>\n A life-long and avid gamer,\u00a0<\/em>William D’Angelo<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>was first introduced to VGChartz in 2007. After years of supporting the site, he was brought on in 2010 as a junior analyst, working his way up to lead analyst in 2012 and taking over the hardware estimates in 2017. He has expanded his involvement in the gaming community by producing content on his own\u00a0<\/span><\/em>YouTube channel<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>Twitch channel<\/a>.
