Vivo has confirmed that its folding mobile device tech is going clamshell for the first time, in the form of the inaugural X Flip. The presumably ultra-portable Android smartphone is now officially tipped to launch with Zeiss-tuned rear cameras, a larger-than-average cover display with useful second-screen functions and three different colorways. Its processor and TUV Rheinland-certified hinge integrity are also now official ahead of its impending launch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Anyone who has looked at the Find N2 Flip<\/a> and wished that its Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4<\/a>-beating cover display<\/a> had the opposite orientation are now in luck, as that is exactly what the Vivo X Flip<\/a> soon stands to offer. The OEM has now dropped all pretense of keeping its first-gen clamshell<\/a> (and its resemblance to its rival from fellow BBK Electronics<\/a> subsidiary OPPO<\/a>) a secret, and has introduced it formally in a new Weibo post.\n<\/p>\n

The X Flip’s<\/a> round rear camera hump will have Zeiss<\/a> branding rather than that of Hasselblad<\/a>, however, which confers the T*<\/a> optical lens treatment “and a built-in Vivo<\/a>\/Zeiss professional imaging system<\/i>” on the foldable’s main 50MP<\/a> OIS-enabled rear camera and 32MP selfie shooter.\n<\/p>\n

Vivo’s inaugural clamshell will come in elaborate “Diamond Black<\/i>” and “Silk Gold<\/i>” colorways as well as “Diamond Purple<\/a><\/i>“; however, despite the iffy and superficial nature of its marketing thus far, (“super makeup mirror<\/i>” camera mode, anyone?) the X Flip<\/a> is also now backed to “combine beauty and strength<\/i>” as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1<\/a>-powered alternative to the also-upcoming X Fold2<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

The OEM has hinted that this involves an appreciably high-refresh-rate<\/a> main display, “the most powerful battery life<\/i>” Vivo<\/a> could muster for it and “ultra-fast flash charging<\/a><\/i>” that might be done as soon as the user has finished their coffee.\n<\/p>\n

Despite all this new hype, Vivo<\/a> has yet to set a date for the X Flip’s launch, or how much it will be on its release.\n<\/p>\n
