It&#8217;s a motorcycle. In fact, there may not be a more bizarrely futuristic two-wheeler on the planet than the TMC Dumont.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s definitely not something you&#8217;d ever expect to see in real life because, quite frankly, it doesn&#8217;t look like it should even work. But then, that&#8217;s the point of a concept vehicle, right?\u00a0The whole &#8220;unreal&#8221; angle was exactly what Marques was going for when he first dreamt of the Dumont.<\/p>\n<p>Built by\u00a0the now\u00a0retired Formula 1 racer turned custom vehicle builder, Tarso Anibal Santanna Marques,\u00a0it looks more like a light cycle driven in &#8220;Tron&#8221; or a bike you&#8217;d find zipping through the mean streets of Night City in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/807438\/cyberpunk-2077-patch-1-52-brings-some-big-fixes-for-ps5-and-xbox-series-x\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Cyberpunk 2077.&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0 Marques is no stranger to concept vehicles. He and his company,\u00a0Tarso Marques Concept (TMC), have built over seventy bikes, plus cars, planes, and boats to boot. So they knew a thing or two about putting stuff together and making it all work.<\/p>\n<p>The Dumont&#8217;s creation didn&#8217;t happen overnight primarily because it had to be\u00a0100% functional. So, for fifteen long years, the idea sat bouncing around inside Marques&#8217; brain, just waiting for the right moment when form met function. Aside from wanting to use the most bleeding-edge engineering concepts available, he couldn&#8217;t find a suitable powerplant.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<h2 class>This concept bike could fly if it wanted to<\/h2>\n<p data-slide-num=\"1\" data-post-id=\"1252071\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kps82JmgoVg?v=kps82JmgoVg\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen data-slide-url=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/1252071\/futuristic-motorcycle-sci-fi-design-airplane-engine\/slide\/this-concept-bike-could-fly-if-it-wanted-to\/\" data-slide-num=\"1\" data-post-id=\"1252071\" data-slide-title=\"This Futuristic Motorcycle Paired Sci-Fi Design With An Airplane Engine: This concept bike could fly if it wanted to\"><\/iframe>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Marques was reticent to use a run-of-the-mill V-Twin or a two or four-stroke single-cylinder engine. He wanted something altogether &#8230; more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When he stumbled onto a 300-horsepower <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slashgear.com\/1049313\/the-15-best-rolls-royce-cars-of-all-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rolls-Royce<\/a> Continental aircraft engine, his team\u00a0finished construction of the bike a mere seven months later.\u00a0 Marques\u00a0showed it off at\u00a0Daytona Beach Bike Week in 2018 and ended up taking home several\u00a0&#8220;Best of Show&#8221; wards.<\/p>\n<p>The specs for the Dumont&#8217;s engine aren&#8217;t listed on the <a href=\"http:\/\/tarsomarques.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tarso Marques Concept website<\/a>, and few details can be found elsewhere. After comparing images of the Dumont&#8217;s powerplant with photographs of Continental engines, it appears to be one from the company&#8217;s\u00a0Tiara line. More specifically, either\u00a0the O-405 (285-320 horsepower), the O-520 (320-hp), the O-526 (270-310 horsepower), or the IO-550 (280-360).\u00a0No other Rolls-Royce Continental airplane engine is capable of, at least stock and in 6-cylinder format, banging out 300 horsepower, as stated by so many reports.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/robbreport.com\/motors\/motorcycles\/tmc-dumont-motorcycle-airplane-engine-2832720\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robb Report<\/a>, Marques said, &#8220;Every single piece was a challenge, but I knew that the concept would work perfectly.&#8221; And he was right. What there is of the bike&#8217;s low-slung minimalist body is made of carbon fiber and aluminum.
