The wait is finally over: The Super Mario Bros<\/em>. Movie is out. The journey here has been filled with some of the best side-splitting memes, ingenious ad campaigns, and revealing method acting<\/a><\/span> from Illumination Entertainment\u2019s star-studded Hollywood cast. However, the Super Mario Bros.<\/em> movie brouhaha has been significantly lacking sound bites from Mario <\/em>creator Shigeru Miyamoto. That is, until today. Here\u2019s a round-up of the best quotes from Miyamoto leading up to the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie<\/em>.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Princess Peach was always supposed to be a girl boss<\/h2>\n

During a video interview with Variety<\/em><\/a><\/span>, Miyamoto revealed that Princess Peach was originally meant to be a playable character in Super Mario Bros.<\/em> (the original 1985 game for the Nintendo Entertainment System).<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a video game, we needed to make it simple and easy to understand what the objective is. So she stayed the \u2018damsel in distress\u2019 for a while,\u201d Miyamoto told Variety<\/em> in reference to Peach\u2019s evolution in the film. \u201cBut we did have desires to make her a playable character, make her have her own story, be a more powerful princess, etc. We tried to push that further for the movie, and I think it was one of our first conversations to make her the strong, powerful princess she was always meant to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

As you can see in this clip of Peach showing Mario the ropes<\/a><\/span>, the mushroom princess is leagues ahead of the isekai\u2019d plumber when it comes to being a force to be reckoned with.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Super Mario Bros.<\/em> (1993) remains irrelevant<\/h2>\n

After Miyamoto dropped a bob-omb by announcing the movie\u2019s cast<\/a><\/span>, a very vocal minority doubt that Illumination\u2019s film could have the same amount of cultural impact as 1993\u2019s live-action movie. Did Nintendo care? Nah.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Game Informer<\/em><\/a><\/span>, Miyamoto dashed die-hard live-action Mario<\/em> film enjoyers\u2019 adoration against the rocks by saying, \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s any impact or influence that the old movie had.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the people who made the movie had put a lot of work into it, but I think the difference is that the movie that was made 30 years ago, we licensed the Mario <\/em>IP and they made the movie,\u201d Miyamoto told Game Informer<\/em>. \u201cThis time, we were looking to maybe get into movies and do the movie production ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/a>Dr. Mario is a fraud and should not be trusted<\/h2>\n

The most annoying Super Smash Bros. Melee<\/em> players, in my humble opinion, just so happen to main Dr. Mario. Like the real-life medical fraudster \u2018Dr.\u2019 Malachi Love-Robinson<\/a><\/span>, Dr. Mario routinely breaks the Hippocratic oath \u201cto do no harm\u201d by using a myriad of pills to buff his moveset and hand players their pixelated asses. In an interview with IGN<\/em><\/a><\/span>, Miyamoto finally broke the deafening silence around Dr. Mario\u2019s history of malpractice.<\/p>\n

\u201cMario\u2019s a blue-collar, he\u2019s a regular person,\u201d Miyamoto told IGN <\/em>in reference to Mario\u2019s depiction in Super Mario Bros<\/em>. \u201cSo, even when he becomes Dr. Mario, there\u2019s a sort of, like, \u2018shadiness,\u2019 like can I trust this person?\u201d<\/p>\n

During Miyamoto\u2019s Variety<\/em> covershoot video interview<\/a><\/span>, the game designer slyly skirted around answering the burning question on everyone\u2019s mind: When are we getting a new Mario <\/em>game? For those keeping score, the last one, Switch\u2019s Super Mario Odyssey<\/em><\/a><\/span>, hit in 2017. Since then, we\u2019ve only gotten the surprisingly good turn-based crossover game Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle<\/em>. <\/em>And I guess Super Nintendo World<\/a><\/span>, if we\u2019re counting amusement parks as IRL games.<\/p>\n
