{"id":625730,"date":"2023-04-04T23:04:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-05T04:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.sellorbuyhomefast.com\/index.php\/2023\/04\/04\/vilsack-names-food-safety-panel-members\/"},"modified":"2023-04-04T23:04:00","modified_gmt":"2023-04-05T04:04:00","slug":"vilsack-names-food-safety-panel-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2023\/04\/04\/vilsack-names-food-safety-panel-members\/","title":{"rendered":"Vilsack names food safety panel members"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The USDA Secretary has named 15 new members and five returning members to the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI).<\/p>\n<p>Members of the committee are chosen based on their expertise in meat and poultry safety, public health, and other Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to announce the new committee members to NACMPI and grateful for their commitment to support food safety and public health,\u201d said Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. \u201cThese members\u2019 diverse expertise and advice will help USDA as we advance our important food safety mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NACMPI consists of 20 members and provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture on food safety concerns and other matters affecting inspection program activities, including food safety policies that will contribute to USDA\u2019s regulatory policy development. <\/p>\n<p>The USDA says the NACMPI has made important contributions to a broad range of critical food safety issues. The committee reports are said to provide current information and advice to FSIS and serve as a foundation for regulations and programs aimed at reducing foodborne disease and enhancing public health.<\/p>\n<p>The newly appointed NACMPI members appointed to serve a two-year term are:<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mary Anne Amalaradjou \u2013 University of Connecticut, Tolland, CT.<br \/>Sharon Birkett \u2013 OSI Group, LLC, Bolingbrook, IL.<br \/>Dr. Dianna Viola Bourassa \u2013 Auburn University, Auburn, AL.<br \/>Dr. Byron D. DBA Pride of The Pond, Tunica, MS.<br \/>Casey Lynn Gallimore \u2013 North American Meat Institute, Shawnee, KS.<br \/>Dr. Joseph Harris \u2013 Southwest Meat Association, Franklin, Texas<br \/>Teresa Schwartz \u2013 Retired Law Professor, Washington, D.C.<br \/>Dr. Byron Williams \u2013 Mississippi State University, Brandon, MS.<\/p>\n<p>FSIS will announce an upcoming committee meeting and topics when more information is available, which will be posted on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/news-events\/events-meetings\">FSIS Events &#038; Meetings<\/a>\u00a0page and published in a future\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/news-events\/news-press-releases?f%5B0%5D=news_type%3A401\"><em>Constituent Update<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><br \/>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/policy\/advisory-committees\/national-advisory-committee-meat-and-poultry-inspection-nacmpi\">NACMPI<\/a>\u00a0was established in 1971 to advise the Secretary of Agriculture concerning state and federal programs with respect to meat and poultry inspection, food safety, and other matters that fall within the scope of the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Poultry Products Inspection Act.
