Foundations specialist Abbey Pynford has been saved from administration after being bought by Wiltshire-based contractor Conlon Ltd.<\/p>\n

Abbey Pynford, which is located in Luton, filed a notice to appoint administrators last month. But the firm\u2019s new managing director Robert Mitchell confirmed to Construction News<\/em> that Conlon has since bought the company’s shareholding for an undisclosed sum, avoiding the need for administration.<\/p>\n

Mitchell told CN<\/em> that Abbey Pynford, which employed an average of 12 people a month in 2021, \u201cremains a standalone business\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added that Conlon was a former client of Abbey Pynford and had \u201cgot to know the business very well\u201d through working with the company for more than 10 years.<\/p>\n

In 2021, Conlon\u2019s turnover was \u00a335.3m, down from \u00a345.9m the previous year, with pre-tax profit of \u00a31.6m. It employed an average of 241 people.<\/p>\n

Mitchell previously worked in various senior roles for Abbey Pynford before leaving in December 2021. The firm\u2019s former managing director Steve Wilson has now left.<\/p>\n

The entry deadline for the\u00a02023 CN Specialists Awards<\/a>\u00a0is less than one month away!<\/p>\n

Subcontractors and other specialists across the UK have until\u00a028 April<\/strong>\u00a0to submit their entries.<\/p>\n

Entrants will be judged on their achievements between January 2022 and April 2023. There are\u00a021 categories to enter<\/a>, chosen to showcase the incredible breadth and depth of talent across the UK\u2019s construction supply chain.<\/p>\n

Written entries will be carefully examined by an extensive panel of expert judges during May, with shortlisted entrants invited to present their work to the judges face-to-face in June.<\/p>\n

Winning entrants will collect their accolades at a black-tie celebration dinner, to be held at the Hilton London Metropole on 7 September.<\/p>\n
