According to a notice on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Recalls\/2023\/Jetson-Electric-Bikes-Recalls-42-Volt-Rogue-Self-Balancing-Scooters-Hoverboards-Due-to-Fire-Hazard-Two-Deaths-Reported?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=govdelivery\">the US Consumer Product Safety Commission\u2019s (CPSC) website<\/a>, the 42-volt Jetson Rogue is being recalled because the lithium-ion battery packs in the hoverboards can overheat. <\/p>\n<p>A fire marshal in Pennsylvania determined that a Jetson Rogue was the point of origin for a fire that killed two children, the CPSC\u2019s notice says. The parents of the children are suing Jetson and Target, where they say they purchased the hoverboard, alleging the two companies should have known of the risk of fire-related injuries due to the design of the Jetson Rogue. (The parents originally sued Walmart, but amended their complaint to sue Target.)<\/p>\n<p>The CPSC also says that \u201cthere have been multiple other reports of the recalled scooters \/ hoverboards burning, sparking or melting, several of which involved reports of flames.\u201d Both the CPSC and Jetson are urging customers to stop using and charging their Jetson Rogues and to get in touch with Jetson for a refund. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>There have been <em>a lot <\/em>of reports of hoverboards <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/3\/14\/14927234\/hoverboard-fire-death-toddler-harrisburg-pa\">catching fire<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2016\/1\/14\/10766976\/hoveboard-catching-fire-video-bluebritish\">even exploding<\/a> over the years, and the CPSC has issued <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/11\/14\/16651712\/hoverboards-recalled-second-house-fire\">large hoverboard recalls in the past<\/a> due to fire risk. UL does offer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2016\/2\/2\/10896970\/hoverboard-battery-safety-ul-certification-rules\">a safety certification program<\/a> for hoverboards, but although the affected Jetson Rogues were UL certified (you can see the badge in <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/2530\/6734\/t\/13\/assets\/Roguemanual-5-1548697275705.pdf?13578950409601006207\">the hoverboard\u2019s manual<\/a>), they are still being recalled.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Rogue recall affects about 53,000 units for hoverboards sold by Target from August 2018 through June 2019 and on Jetson\u2019s website from January 2019 through November 2021.
