In today\u2019s rapidly changing world, it\u2019s more important than ever to create opportunities for individuals from non-traditional backgrounds to pursue new career paths. Apprenticeship programs are a powerful tool that can help bridge this gap by providing hands-on experience and mentorship to those interested in learning a new trade or skill. At Realtor.com<\/a>, we\u2019re thrilled to offer an apprenticeship program for individuals interested in learning coding and programming. As an engineering manager driving this program, it\u2019s a huge privilege for me to support and groom talented individuals in their quest for new career paths. This was a cross-functional effort, and we all played an important role in the success of launching this program. I\u2019d like to extend my gratitude to the \u201cTech Strategy\u201d and \u201cTalent Acquisition\u201d organizations for their support in making this possible.<\/p>\n

Partnering with Onramp<\/a>, we began accepting applications and were blown away by the response \u2014 we received over 200 submissions from all across the country! After careful consideration, we selected 13 candidates for an interview and ultimately chose four individuals to join our apprenticeship program.<\/p>\n

Our six-month program is designed to provide hands-on experience in coding and programming, as well as mentorship from experienced professionals in the field. Each apprentice<\/strong> is paired with an internal mobile engineering mentor<\/strong> who provides guidance and support throughout their journey. They are also given the opportunity to work on real-world projects <\/strong>and gain practical experience. The program also has the potential for a full-time offer based on performance and interest.<\/p>\n

We kicked off our apprenticeship program on February 27, and currently, our apprentices are going through the training project with Onramp. On March 27, they will join the mobile squads and start contributing to the team. The mobile team and I are super excited and looking forward to working with them.<\/p>\n

At Realtor.com, we believe that this program will help to create more opportunities for individuals from non-traditional backgrounds to enter the tech industry and pursue a career in programming. It\u2019s a collaborative journey that requires dedication and effort from both parties \u2014 the apprentice <\/strong>and the mentor<\/strong>. When approached with the right attitude, an apprenticeship program can provide valuable experience and growth opportunities for the apprentice while also shaping the future leaders of the organization for the hiring manager.<\/p>\n
