The system then turns heat from the servers into hot water for the host site.<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p>Deep Green provides the equipment free of charge and refunds the electricity costs. Credit: Deep Green.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The \u201cdigital boilers\u201d are now coming to public swimming pools, which are struggling with surging energy costs.<\/p>\n<p>Across Britain, 85 pools have closed since 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2023\/mar\/12\/england-has-lost-almost-400-swimming-pools-since-2010#:~:text=Across%20the%20country%2C%2085%20pools,three%20years%20before%20the%20pandemic.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the Guardian revealed<\/a> last week. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=31%25+of+council+areas+in+England+could+lose+their+leisure+centres+or+reduce+services+at+the+facilities+after+the+current+energy+support+scheme+ends+on+1+April.&#038;oq=31%25+of+council+areas+in+England+could+lose+their+leisure+centres+or+reduce+services+at+the+facilities+after+the+current+energy+support+scheme+ends+on+1+April.&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57.438j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">trade body UK Active<\/a>, 31% of council areas in England may lose or trim their leisure centres\u00a0after the current energy support scheme ends on 1 April.<\/p>\n<p>Deep Green today revealed that a fitness club in Devon is already using the digital boiler. Seven other pools in England have also signed up for the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>To warm them up, the data centre computers are submerged in mineral oil, which captures heat from the machines. The output is then processed through a heat exchanger and into the water.<\/p>\n<p>The temperature is only topped up when required. Credit: Deep Green.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span>Deep Green\u2019s tech is unusual, but it\u2019s far from the first company to recycle data centre heat. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The concept is particularly popular in the Nordic region. <\/span><span>In Finland, for instance, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortum.com\/media\/2022\/03\/fortum-and-microsoft-announce-worlds-largest-collaboration-heat-homes-services-and-businesses-sustainable-waste-heat-new-data-centre-region\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span>plans are afoot<\/span><\/a><span> to use waste heat from two new Microsoft data centres to warm homes and businesses in and around Helsinki.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The project, however, relies on extensive public infrastructure.
