{"id":618055,"date":"2023-03-14T10:07:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T15:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.sellorbuyhomefast.com\/index.php\/2023\/03\/14\/dot-and-austin-texas-launch-first-of-its-kind-22b-transportation-partnership\/"},"modified":"2023-03-14T10:07:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-14T15:07:00","slug":"dot-and-austin-texas-launch-first-of-its-kind-22b-transportation-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2023\/03\/14\/dot-and-austin-texas-launch-first-of-its-kind-22b-transportation-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"DOT and Austin, Texas, launch first-of-its-kind $22B transportation partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<h3>Dive Brief:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The U.S. Department of Transportation and the city of Austin, Texas, have established an emerging projects agreement to deliver and finance more than $22 billion in innovative, mobility-focused infrastructure improvements, according to a Feb. 28 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/briefing-room\/us-department-transportation-establishes-partnership-city-austin-finance-mobility-and\">press release<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The agreement will likely support efforts including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austintexas.gov\/coa-project-connect-office\">Project Connect,<\/a> a $7.1 billion partnership among the city and local transit agencies to expand and improve public transportation throughout Central Texas, and the $3.6 billion Corridor Construction program for \u201ctransformative safety and mobility improvements on several roadways,\u201d including \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.austintexas.gov\/edims\/document.cfm?id=171593\">Complete Communities<\/a> infrastructure,\u201d\u00a0the press release said.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThis partnership will help move projects forward to deliver benefits to the growing region, [with]\u00a0the goal of reconnecting communities, using technology to reduce traffic and pedestrian fatalities, and retaining vulnerable local businesses and residents,\u201d the press release said.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Dive Insight:<\/h3>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The Transportation Department has entered into emerging projects agreements with states, including <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supplychaindive.com\/news\/california-usdot-program-port-infrastructure-congestion-newsom\/609188\/\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>California<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>, to fast-track networks of related projects rather than using a piecemeal approach. This is its first with a city,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u201cand others are soon to follow,\u201d Build America Bureau Executive Director Morteza Farajian said in an email. \u201cI believe the Austin [emerging projects agreement] will start a trend by taking a systems approach to delivering transformative transportation projects.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyupdate.transportation.org\/Pages\/072216bureau.aspx\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Build America Bureau<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>, a one-stop shop the DOT created to streamline the development and financing of transportation infrastructure projects, has been discussing similar partnerships with other cities, Farajian said.
