Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson is hoping he\u2019ll make the Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

\u2018Smooth\u2019 returned to the cage over the weekend at Bellator 292. The former UFC champion faced the undefeated Usman Nurmagomedov<\/a> in the main event, with the goal of handing him his first loss. Prior to the bout, Henderson revealed his plans to win the tournament, and then retire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sadly, the storybook ending didn\u2019t come for the former lightweight titleholder. Henderson was dropped from a head kick early and wound up being submitted<\/a> by Nurmagomeov in the first frame. Following the defeat, he decided to call it quits a bit early, retiring in the cage.<\/p>\n

While Benson Henderson was with Bellator upon his retirement, that doesn\u2019t mean he didn\u2019t appreciate his time in the UFC. During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour<\/em> with Ariel Helwani, the former champion discussed his retirement.<\/p>\n

There, \u2018Smooth\u2019 admitted that he was hoping for a UFC Hall of Fame induction to come one day. While he\u2019s not going to sit around waiting for the honor, he would deeply appreciate it.<\/p>\n

\"Benson<\/p>\n

\u201cI would definitely appreciate it.\u201d Benson Henderson stated on The MMA Hour<\/em><\/a> when asked about being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. \u201cMy man said, \u2018If you live for that acceptance, you will die from the rejection\u2019. So, while it would be nice to have that, like any accolade you get, it\u2019s cool. It\u2019s nice, awesome, it\u2019s not bad at all. It shows that the organization cares about what you\u2019ve done, and what you\u2019ve accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cBut at the same time it\u2019s not something you live for\u2026 I think if I were to ever get into the UFC Hall of Fame that would be awesome. I\u2019m all about it, it would be great to get up there in a suit and tie\u2026 For sure, I\u2019d have a lot of respect and appreciation for that acknowledgment.\u201d<\/p>\n
