It\u2019s safe to say that no other athlete lining up for IRONMAN South Africa<\/a> on Sunday will have had the same race build-up as Cameron Wurf<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Aussie, who was 11th<\/a> at the IRONMAN World Championship<\/a> in Kona last October as he saw his bike course record go to Sam Laidlow, was in action last week at pro cycling\u2019s UAE Tour.<\/p>\n

Riding for the INEOS Grenadiers, who he helped to a famous Paris-Roubaix victory last April, he\u2019s revealed how he manages to still get his triathlon training in while part of the pro peloton.<\/p>\n

Nice a big target<\/h2>\n

He told Cycling News<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m not too concerned about my fitness dropping from this week, if the stage is a bit more tranquilo and about sitting in the wheels, I do a bit more exercise before the stage or afterwards.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s involved swimming in the morning before stages \u2013 or runs afterwards, pretty much unconventional brick sessions!<\/p>\n

And looking at the year ahead, it\u2019s clear he still has strong triathlon ambitions, explaining: \u201cI\u2019ve got a few Ironmans planned, the South Africa Ironman is next weekend and \u2026 apart from that, there\u2019s the Ironman in Lanzarote in May, and one in Nice in June, and then all being well I\u2019ll get an opportunity to try at the World Championships next September in Nice.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ironman stuff is for me, but the team\u2019s a lot bigger than me, so that\u2019s 100% the priority. I\u2019ll contribute the best I possibly can to get the best results.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wurf left it relatively late before qualifying for last year\u2019s IMWC with a\u00a0dramatic second place<\/a>\u00a0at IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz in July.<\/p>\n

And he\u2019ll be looking to tick that box early this weekend, with the top four in South Africa all rewarded with spots in Nice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
