Announced today at an event the automaker held in California, Mercedes said <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/media.mercedes-benz.com\/article\/7b55c658-898d-4363-9c1f-2fb42e55269c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"cpos:1;pos:1;itc:0\">MB.OS<\/a> \u2013 short for Mercedes-Benz Operating System \u2013 will deliver enhancements in safety, automated driving and navigation.<\/p>\n<p>The automaker is working with several partners to build its new software stack, including NVIDIA, Luminar and Google. Mercedes will lean on NVIDIA for the company\u2019s software, data and AI expertise. The GPU maker&#8217;s <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/nvidia-jetson-agx-orin-price-release-date-163327815.html\" data-ylk=\"cpos:2;pos:1;itc:0\">Orin chipset<\/a> will also power the first generation of electric cars Mercedes builds based on its upcoming Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. The automaker expects the first MMA EV to arrive by mid-decade.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mysterio.yahoo.com\/api\/res\/1.2\/Sb.2VuRrmItw0tVuyV5HLw--\/ZHByPTI7dz04NzU7YXBwaWQ9ZW5nYWRnZXQ-\/https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/os\/creatr-uploaded-images\/2023-02\/d7f87340-b2fc-11ed-9feb-6e0e3961b683.cf.webp\" alt=\"A render of Mercedes-Benz's upcoming Google Maps integration.\" data-uuid=\"92e15fef-c8bc-36f5-ad1d-96b6575b32b4\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><p>Mercedes-Benz<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>As for <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/luminar-airbus-lidar-safety-autonomous-flight-planes-helicopters-143053397.html\" data-ylk=\"cpos:3;pos:1;itc:0\">Luminar<\/a> and Google, the former will provide Mercedes with its LiDAR technology, while the latter will work with the company to build a branded navigation experience incorporating features from Google Maps. In the meantime, Mercedes is <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/media.mercedes-benz.com\/article\/42118a43-5c19-487b-883b-a11beac9d7cb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"cpos:4;pos:1;itc:0\">partnering with Google<\/a> to bring the company\u2019s \u201cPlace Details\u201d data to all cars that sport the latest version of its <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/mercedes-mbux-hyperscreen-eqs-161520472.html\" data-ylk=\"cpos:5;pos:1;itc:0\">MBUX infotainment system<\/a>. You can use the integration to look up a local business, find out when it opens, and see photos of the inside and what other Google users have to say about it. Mercedes plans to open MB.OS to other partners as well, including <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/en-us\/bringing-our-community-a-new-way-to-enjoy-tiktok-with-mercedes-benz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"cpos:6;pos:1;itc:0\">TikTok<\/a>, Zoom and even <em>Angry Birds<\/em> developer Rovio.<\/p>\n<p>All MMA EVs will ship with the hardware needed for Level 2 automated driving. Mercedes is also working with NVIDIA and Luminar to offer Drive Pilot, a Level 3 automated driving system. The software will arrive later this year in <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/group-media.mercedes-benz.com\/marsMediaSite\/en\/instance\/ko.xhtml?oid=55116818\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"cpos:7;pos:1;itc:0\">2024 EQS and S-Class<\/a> models. Naturally, MB.OS will also enable Mercedes to deliver over-the-air updates, allowing it to add new features to existing cars.<\/p>\n<p>The company isn\u2019t shy about the fact that some upgrades may cost a one-time fee or come as part of a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/mercedes-acceleration-increase-ev-subscription-230058550.html\" data-ylk=\"cpos:8;pos:1;itc:0\">subscription package<\/a>. In fact, Mercedes has already announced a handful of software bundles it will offer to owners of cars with MB.OS. MB.Connect, for instance, will bring together the company\u2019s navigation, entertainment and communication features in one package. Other bundles, such as MB.Charge, will provide customers with priority access to Mercedes-Benz charging stations.
