While Google first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/1\/11\/23550717\/google-meet-emoji-launch\">announced the new feature last month<\/a>, now it\u2019s rolling out on both iOS and Android and uses your device\u2019s gyroscope to move with you.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see in the embedded GIF, the 360-degree background will change depending on where your phone or tablet\u2019s positioned. So, if you move your phone left or right, your background will adjust to show different scenery. Google says users can apply \u201cseveral\u201d new 360-degree backgrounds during video calls, including one that shows a beach and another with a temple. <\/p>\n<div>\n<figure>\n<p><span><img alt   src=\"https:\/\/duet-cdn.vox-cdn.com\/thumbor\/0x0:253x450\/2400x4267\/filters:focal(127x225:128x226):no_upscale():format(webp)\/cdn.vox-cdn.com\/uploads\/chorus_asset\/file\/24353007\/google_360_backgrounds.gif\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"fill\" loading=\"lazy\" data-old-src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><cite>Image: Google<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>While the feature does look pretty cool, I can see how these backgrounds might get distracting if you\u2019re on a call with someone who\u2019s constantly moving their phone around. However, they\u2019re still probably not as obnoxious as Meet\u2019s collection of Snapchat-like filters \u2014 which currently includes one that turns you into a cat and another that puts your face on a strawberry.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Google started rolling out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/1\/11\/23550717\/google-meet-emoji-launch\">emoji reactions for Meet<\/a>, including the heart, thumbs-up, party popper, clap, joy, astonished, thinking, cry, and thumbs-down emoji, but it still has a long way to go if it wants to catch up with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/4\/21\/22395725\/zoom-update-emoji-reactions-annotation-vanishing-pen\">Zoom\u2019s complete library of reactions<\/a>.
