This week, the company <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.opera.com\/news\/2023\/02\/opera-aigc-integration\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"cpos:1;pos:1;itc:0\"><ins>shared plans<\/ins><\/a> to integrate generative AI capabilities into its web browser, starting with \u201cShorten,\u201d a feature that will use ChatGPT to create summaries of articles and webpages. When the tool becomes available to the public, you\u2019ll see a new icon to the right of the address bar. Tapping it will open a sidebar where ChatGPT will provide a bulleted summary of the webpage you\u2019re looking at.<\/p>\n<div id=\"21fef9a9cf2d4ff2b514369f5d9cdbad\">\n<p><figure><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RsLRIua6kT0?rel=0\" allowfullscreen scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Jan Standel, vice president of marketing and communications at Opera, <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/2\/11\/23595784\/opera-browser-chatgpt-sidebar-ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"cpos:2;pos:1;itc:0\"><ins>told <\/ins><em><ins>The Verge<\/ins><\/em><\/a>, Shorten will start rolling out to users \u201cvery soon.\u201d The company is working on other AI-powered features it claims will \u201caugment\u201d the Opera experience, but the company didn\u2019t detail what those additions will entail.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The announcement of Shorten comes in the same week that Microsoft said it was <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/microsoft-edge-ai-copilot-184033427.html\" data-ylk=\"cpos:3;pos:1;itc:0\"><ins>redesigning Edge<\/ins><\/a> to add an \u201cAI-powered copilot\u201d to the browser. Among the things the company\u2019s new Prometheus model can do is summarize web pages. This past week also saw Google share that it\u2019s working on <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/google-officially-unveils-its-chatgpt-rival-apprentice-bard-192055722.html\" data-ylk=\"cpos:4;pos:1;itc:0\"><ins>Bard<\/ins><\/a>, an AI chatbot powered by its LaMDA platform. The timing of the announcements suggests Opera and Microsoft see generative AI as a way to break Google\u2019s hold on the browser market.
