Duke University Health System has named Dr. Craig Albanese\u00a0as its next CEO.<\/p>\n

Albanese will move into the top position at the end of March. He will succeed\u00a0Dr. A. Eugene Washington, who announced in the fall plans to step\u00a0down June 30 from his leadership roles, which include president of\u00a0Duke University Health System and chancellor for health affairs at Duke University.<\/p>\n

Albanese has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer since joining the Durham, North Carolina-based health system just over a year ago.\u00a0Albanese\u00a0previously was group senior vice president and chief medical officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He has also served in senior leadership roles at Stanford University, including vice president of quality and performance improvement at Stanford Children\u2019s Health.<\/p>\n

Duke University Health System operates three hospitals, more than 200 clinics, additional clinical affiliate hospitals and a network of community hospitals that are part of Duke Lifepoint. The health system employs more than\u00a023,000 full-time staff, and reported nearly 67,000 inpatient admissions and nearly 4.7 million outpatient visits in fiscal year 2021.<\/p>\n
