Intermountain Health has named Nannette Berensen chief operating officer, the nonprofit integrated health system announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

Berensen is filling the C-suite seat held for six years by Intermountain President and CEO Rob Allen, who moved from COO to the top job<\/a> Dec. 1.<\/p>\n

“There are formidable challenges facing healthcare that will require the collective wisdom and efforts of all of us to position Intermountain Health for future success. I am confident that by working together, we will be successful,\u201d Berensen said in the news release.<\/p>\n

Allen succeeded interim President and CEO<\/a> Lydia Jumonville, who will be executive sponsor of Integration for Intermountain until her retirement at the end of the year. Former CEO Dr. Marc Harrison left the Salt Lake City-based company<\/a> in August to join the venture capital firm General Catalyst.<\/p>\n

Berensen has held a number of positions at Intermountain Health over 17 years. Prior to her promotion, she was vice president and chief operating officer of Clinical Shared Services.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have the highest respect for and confidence in Nannette, who has demonstrated a unique ability to drive innovation, bring teams together and improve the patient experience,\u201d Allen said in a news release.<\/p>\n

Intermountain Health accrued $2.16 billion in net income<\/a> through the third quarter, according to an unaudited financial report released in November. The health system operates 33 hospitals and 385 clinics and employs about 60,000 people.<\/p>\n
