The Tim Burton-directed dark comedy has set new records for viewership and has become one of\u00a0the most-watched English-language series on\u00a0Netflix. In\u00a0the series, however, there were many hidden references that most of\u00a0us couldn\u2019t spot, so\u00a0we\u00a0decided to\u00a0uncover Wednesday<\/i>\u2019s little Easter eggs.<\/p>\n

1. Gomez\u2019s prison uniform number<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

In\u00a0episode<\/a>\u00a05, when Gomez gets arrested, he\u00a0changes into a\u00a0prison uniform with the number 17 19 12. The number is\u00a0the date and year when Charles Addams<\/a>, the original Addams Family sitcom creator, was born.<\/p>\n

2. The scene when Pugsley is\u00a0thrust up\u00a0with an\u00a0apple stuffed in\u00a0his mouth<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the first episode\u2019s opening scene, Wednesday finds her brother locked in\u00a0a\u00a0school locker with an\u00a0apple in\u00a0his mouth. This scene mirrors how Pugsley was introduced in\u00a0The Adams Family<\/i> movie<\/a> from 1991 when Wednesday has his brother tied up\u00a0with a\u00a0rope and an\u00a0apple in\u00a0his mouth for archery practice.<\/p>\n

3. Wednesday sleeping with her arms crossed<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

After the gargoyle incident, Wednesday ends up\u00a0in\u00a0the infirmary room, where we\u00a0can see her sleeping with her arms crossed. This scene is\u00a0also a\u00a0nod to\u00a0the old The Addams Family<\/i> movie in\u00a0which Wednesday goes to\u00a0sleep with her arms folded across her chest<\/a>.<\/p>\n

4. The license plate on\u00a0their car spells their family name. <\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Also, the license plate reveals that they live in\u00a0New Jersey and pays tribute to\u00a0Charles Addams (born<\/a> in\u00a0Westfield, New Jersey), the man who drew the original cartoons.<\/p>\n

5. Morticia ripping off the flower head of\u00a0a\u00a0rose when visiting Garett Gate\u2019s grave<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

This act is\u00a0nothing new for Morticia\u2019s character, as\u00a0in\u00a0both The Addams Family<\/i> sitcom<\/a> and The Addams Family<\/i> movie<\/a>, we\u00a0can see her cutting off the heads of\u00a0roses she picks.<\/p>\n

6. Snapping twice to\u00a0open the secret entrance to\u00a0the Nightshade Society\u2019s basement<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Well, the code to\u00a0snap twice has a\u00a0story behind\u00a0it, and it\u00a0wasn\u2019t invented by\u00a0mistake. It\u00a0originates from The Adams Family<\/i> theme song<\/a> and opening credits, where the family snaps twice with the rhythm of\u00a0the music.<\/p>\n

7. The giant stuffed bear in\u00a0Principal Gwendoline Christie\u2019s office<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

Again, this is\u00a0one more reference to\u00a0The Addams Family<\/i> sitcom from 1964. In\u00a0the series, we\u00a0can see that the Addams have a\u00a0stuffed bear in\u00a0their house.<\/p>\n

8. The Nevermore Academy yearbook<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

When Morticia looks through the yearbook on\u00a0Wednesday, <\/i>we\u00a0can see the year 1991\u00a0on the cover. This hints that she attended Nevermore the same year the movie The Addams Family <\/i>was released<\/a>.<\/p>\n

9. The \u201cI\u00a0can eat girl scouts for breakfast\u201d phrase<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

When Tyler asks Wednesday in\u00a0episode 3\u00a0whether she has ever been a\u00a0girl scout, she answers, \u201cI\u00a0can eat girl scouts for breakfast.\u201d This references The Adams Family<\/i> movie when Pugsley and Wednesday sell lemonade. Amanda, a\u00a0girl scout, approaches them, saying, \u201cI\u2019ll buy a\u00a0cup if\u00a0you buy a\u00a0box of\u00a0my\u00a0delicious Girl Scout cookies.\u201d And Wednesday replies<\/a>, \u201cAre they made from real girl scouts?\u201d<\/p>\n

10. The dried-up head on\u00a0the principal\u2019s desk<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

This is\u00a0a\u00a0nod to\u00a0Harry the Hunter\u2019s shrunken head from Tim Burton\u2019s 1988\u00a0movie<\/a>, Beetlejuice<\/i>.<\/p>\n

11. The names on\u00a0the window when Wednesday visits her therapist, Dr. Valerie Kinbott<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n

The show\u2019s creators, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, are mentioned as\u00a0real estate agents under the name of\u00a0Wednesday\u2019s therapist. And the names below are Tommy Harper, one of\u00a0the executive producers<\/a> on\u00a0the show, and the associate producer, Natalie Testa.<\/p>\n
