\n\tKenya Barris<\/a>, creator of the -ish<\/em> franchise, has made his directorial debut <\/a>with You People<\/em>\u2014a comedy in the same vein as Guess Who\u2019s Coming to Dinner<\/em> (1967) and Guess Who<\/a> <\/em>(2005) that stars Lauren London<\/a>, Jonah Hill, Nia Long<\/a>, and Eddie Murphy<\/a>. However, the screenwriter-producer is facing an onset of backlash over an alleged \u201cobsession\u201d with biracial and interracial protagonists and relationships. <\/p>\n

\n\tRegarding the matter, Barris, 48, explained to ESSENCE<\/em>, \u201cI feel like it\u2019s insane to be honest with you. I laugh at it. I usually don\u2019t even talk about it. It came from\u00a0black-ish<\/a><\/em>\u00a0because I was doing a story about my family and my wife happens to be bi-racial and then the spinoff was\u00a0grown-ish<\/a>\u00a0which was about one of the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cI will battle anybody. Show me my Black repertoire of what I\u2019ve done and put it against anybody and I\u2019ll go up against everybody. I\u2019m by us for us. I feel like it just happens to sort of be a part of the conversation that people will find anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
