He told his rescuers that he survived by eating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibe.com\/news\/business\/mariah-carey-mcdonalds-menu-famous-orders-campaign-1234636477\/\">ketchup<\/a> and other random items found on his boat.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibe.com\/features\/editorial\/j-balvin-cover-story-vibe-viva-431808\/\">Colombian<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibe.com\/t\/navy\/\" id=\"auto-tag_navy\" data-tag=\"navy\">navy<\/a> shared a statement on Thursday (Jan. 19) saying that Elvis Francois, 47, was saved after a plane noticed the word \u201chelp\u201d written on his boat while flying near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibe.com\/t\/colombia\/\" id=\"auto-tag_colombia\" data-tag=\"colombia\">Colombia<\/a>\u2019s Puerto Bolivar. \u201cI had no food,\u201d Francois said in a video the navy shared. \u201cIt was just a bottle of ketchup that was on the boat, garlic powder and Maggi (stock cubes) so I mixed it up with some water.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sailor survives 24 days adrift in Caribbean Sea living off ketchup\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bZQuQ72J0Yw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\n\tHe also told the story of how this happened, revealing that he was in the midst of fixing his boat while near the Dutch section of Saint Martin back in December 2022 when strong weather pulled it into the sea. He was not aware of where he was and how to return to the shore, so he drifted further and further out into the water while consuming what little resources he could find. <\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cTwenty four days \u2013 no land, nobody to talk to. Don\u2019t know what to do, don\u2019t know where you are. It was rough,\u201d Francois said. \u201cAt a certain time, I lose hope.
