To better reach the new audience segment, Activia grew its investment in video content with <a href=\"https:\/\/digiday.com\/marketing\/the-dollars-are-not-where-they-need-to-be-a-minority-woman-owned-media-company-isnt-begging-for-ad-support-but-still-sees-room-for-change\/\">Canela Media, a minority, woman-owned media company<\/a> and also plans to invest more ad dollars with diverse creators and influencer networks. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to continue pushing a full multicultural marketing effort that\u2019s really inclusive across creative and media,\u201d Sallette said. \u201cMedia being not just media ad placements, but also content creators and then some of the production companies that we would use along the way too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Activia isn\u2019t alone in its efforts to appeal to more diverse consumers. Last year, Taco Bell announced a television spot talking specifically to Mexican Americans, employing Latin-focused talent in an effort to be more inclusive. And this year, Planet Fitness has committed to spending more on diverse audiences, rolling out spots on BET, Univision and Telemundo, <a href=\"https:\/\/digiday.com\/media\/black-owned-publishers-ad-businesses-grow-due-to-increase-in-new-advertisers-and-their-investment-in-content\/\">as well as blogs like Blavity<\/a>. These brands are looking to keep up with changing demographics and appeal to younger consumers as they come into buying power. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs our audiences are becoming more diverse, and this is more important now not only to Planet Fitness, but the world and how things are shifting, we definitely want to be a part of those conversations authentically,\u201d said Jamie Medeiros, Chief Brand Officer at Planet Fitness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/social-trends\/2020\/05\/14\/on-the-cusp-of-adulthood-and-facing-an-uncertain-future-what-we-know-about-gen-z-so-far-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to Pew Research,<\/a> Gen Z is both more racially and ethnically diverse than previous generations in the U.S. More specifically, one in four Gen Zers is Hispanic, Pew reports. And as this generation comes into more spending power, marketers are taking notice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In previous years, multicultural audiences were typically an afterthought, said David V\u00e9lez, strategy director at Remezcla, an independent Latin digital media company and creative agency. But within the last year and a half, that has changed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Remezcla has] been around for 15 years. But in the last year and a half, we really have been brought to the table,\u201d V\u00e9lez said. \u201cThere\u2019s a process of really understanding this consumer because of the data that\u2019s showing [Latinidad] importance and influence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The industry\u2019s push for more inclusive marketing is a trend that\u2019s expected to continue. \u201cTo me, it\u2019s inevitable that it has to work. Because now, it\u2019s not just a silo,\u201d V\u00e9lez said. \u201cThe massive audience is reflective of a multicultural mainstream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Activia, there are already plans to increase multicultural marketing efforts and expand the brand\u2019s presence beyond Canela and into other media outlets with diverse audiences.
