Kier, Morgan Sindall, Vinci and Wates have joined a swathe of smaller contractors to secure places on a national framework worth \u00a31bn.<\/span><\/p>\n

The firms are among 94 appointed by national framework provider Pagabo to its framework for medium-sized projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scheme is designed to provide a route to market for public sector clients to procure construction projects valued at up to \u00a310m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second iteration of the framework, which will run until 2027, succeeds the<\/span> original version, which was launched in 2019<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Split into four lots covering value bands starting at \u00a350,000, the framework is intended to maximise supplier choice for clients while creating opportunities for SMEs alongside larger organisations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the other contractors appointed to the framework are Buckingham Group, Eric Wright, McLaren and Seddon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jason Stapley, chief procurement officer at The 55 Group \u2013 Pagabo\u2019s parent organisation \u2013 said there had been a \u201cconscious effort\u201d to ensure the presence of smaller firms on the framework, with two-thirds of the successful contractors coming from the SME sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe know it can be tough for the smaller contractors to compete with the industry\u2019s largest companies, so we aim to make our frameworks a vehicle for all to flourish,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stapley said he expected to see an improvement in results compared with the former framework, under which more than 160 projects were procured.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe new iteration of the framework is aligned with all of the gold-standard principles of procurement laid out by the [government\u2019s] Construction Playbook [guidance], ensuring that all clients and suppliers will be working at the forefront of industry best practice when it comes to their built environment projects,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He gave the example of appointed contractors being given free access to software to demonstrate the social value generated by procured projects for local communities.<\/span><\/p>\n
