The acute hospital laboratory (AHL) is being created to provide pathology facilities to support clinical teams at the LGI when the main pathology service relocates to the new pathology laboratory currently under construction at nearby St James\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n

Morris & Spottiswood started construction of the AHL last week and is expected to complete the job in the summer.<\/p>\n

The new lab will bring blood sciences and the blood bank together in a single purpose-built facility.<\/p>\n

Leeds Teaching Hospitals\u2019 director of finance<\/a> Simon Worthington said: \u201cWe have reached yet another exciting milestone within our project that is set to transform pathology services for both Leeds and West Yorkshire. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhile many of our pathology teams will move to the new St James\u2019s site later in the year, the AHL will continue to provide a vital service at the LGI, giving clinical teams on-site access to urgent and emergency testing when required. It will also allow our staff to work in an environment that is equipped with new technology, supporting our drive to improve the way we provide diagnostic testing for people right across our region.\u201d<\/p>\n
