Users reported streams suddenly stopped, and for people who\u2019ve logged out, some say they can\u2019t log in again. <\/p>\n<p>The outage has garnered over 30,000 reports on <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/spotify\/\">DownDetector.com<\/a>, starting just before 8PM ET and rising sharply since then.  A <a href=\"https:\/\/status.spotify.dev\/\">status page for the company\u2019s web API<\/a> indicates a \u201cminor\u201d partial outage affecting only the player itself, which is consistent with what we\u2019re seeing \u2014 but that\u2019s also the most important part of Spotify. <\/p>\n<p>The Spotify Status Twitter account acknowledged the issues just before 9PM ET, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpotifyStatus\/status\/1614078310023045129\">tweeting<\/a>, \u201cwe\u2019re looking into it,\u201d and eventually followed up at 11:16PM ET with a post saying things \u201care looking much better now.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/11\/16\/22785599\/google-cloud-outage-spotify-discord-snapchat-google-cloud\">The last time<\/a> we noted this kind of service-wide outage for Spotify, a Google Cloud problem was the culprit, but so far, there\u2019s no indication of a larger cloud or routing issue that might have impacted other services.<\/p>\n<p>If you still can\u2019t stream your music, you may have to pass the aux cord to someone who doesn\u2019t have a Spotify subscription (they\u2019ll be easy to identify, they\u2019re the only ones who didn\u2019t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23494919\/spotify-wrapped-2022-how-to\">post a Spotify Wrapped image<\/a> on social media a few weeks ago), or do something as archaic as relying on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/7\/4\/22561092\/apple-bring-back-ipods-2021-music-services\">downloaded MP3s<\/a> or some sort of physical media. <\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Update 11:25PM ET:<\/strong> Updated with Spotify\u2019s message that service appears to have been restored.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/1\/13\/23554575\/spotify-down-outage-songs-not-playing-streaming\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n Richard Lawler<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s Friday night in the US, and for a while there, the music was not playing on Spotify for many people.
