Despite other offerings from LG this year, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/opinion\/i-tried-lgs-wireless-oled-tv-with-4k-120hz-video-its-impressive-but-with-3-problems\"><u>wireless M3 OLED<\/u><\/a>, and heady competition in the form of the Samsung S95C (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/opinion\/samsungs-77-inch-oled-is-the-best-tv-ive-seen-at-ces-2023\">which we rate as the best TV we saw at the show<\/a>), C Series screens always do well with reviewers and consumers alike \u2013 and the LG C3 OLED is one to watch this year.<\/p>\n<p>But what\u2019s different about the LG C3 OLED compared to other C Series screens, and is it worth buying over its older <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/reviews\/lg-c2-oled-oled65c2\"><u>LG C2<\/u><\/a> predecessor? We\u2019ve put together a guide filled with everything we know about the LG C3 OLED screen.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"lg-c3-oled-price-and-release-date\">LG C3 OLED: price and release date<\/h2>\n<p>The LG C3 OLED doesn\u2019t have a confirmed price yet, though you can expect it to cleave close to the C2\u2019s launch price, especially given how similar the hardware for both sets is. Here are last year\u2019s LG C2&#8217;s RRPs at launch:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>42-inch: $1,399 \/ \u00a31,399 (around AU$2,000)<\/li>\n<li>48-inch: $1,499 \/ \u00a31,399 (around AU$2,200)<\/li>\n<li>55-inch: $1,799 \/ \u00a31,999 (around AU$2,600)<\/li>\n<li>65-inch: $2,499 \/ \u00a32,799 (around AU$3,600)<\/li>\n<li>77-inch: $3,499 \/ \u00a33,699 (around AU$5,100)<\/li>\n<li>83-inch: $5,499 \/ \u00a34,799 (around AU$8,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We can expect this same range of screen sizes to be available in the C3, as well as a similar March-April release date, though not all sizes may launch simultaneously.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"lg-c3-oled-design-and-features-what-x2019-s-new\">LG C3 OLED: design and features &#8211; what\u2019s new?<\/h2>\n<p>The LG C3 OLED isn\u2019t a significant evolution over previous models. It features the same OLED Evo panel as the C2, with its brightness-boosting capabilities in sizes of 55 inches and up (brightness is lower in the smaller sizes). But there is an upgraded Alpha9 Gen6 chip, which is LG&#8217;s latest and greatest image processor, and should be able to push the panel that little bit harder.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As ever, this is a 4K HDR TV with a 120Hz panel, support for Dolby Vision IQ, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/audio\/dolby-atmos-a-step-by-step-guide-to-the-premature-speaker-tech-1305066\">Dolby Atmos<\/a>\u00a0compatibility \u2013 and you can expect a crisp resolution and capable upscaling alongside a full suite of premium formats. A new composite fiber construction also reduces the weight of this year\u2019s C Series screen.<\/p>\n<p>A new algorithm helps distinguish between the picture\u2019s foreground and background, seemingly helping to ramp up the brightness in important places. Regardless, the deep blacks and incredible contrast in self-emissive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/what-is-oled\">OLED<\/a>\u00a0displays should be suitably jaw-dropping here.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker system hasn\u2019t seen a meaningful upgrade; this is still a 3.1.2 channel speaker with 40W output. Despite LG\u2019s claims that the C3 can offer \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgnewsroom.com\/2023\/01\/lgs-2023-oled-tvs-take-viewing-immersion-and-user-experience-to-new-heights\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.lgnewsroom.com\/2023\/01\/lgs-2023-oled-tvs-take-viewing-immersion-and-user-experience-to-new-heights\/\" rel=\"noopener\">virtual 9.1.2 surround sound<\/a><span> (opens in new tab)<\/span>\u201d through its AI Sound Pro feature, we\u2019re somewhat sceptical of this. By the looks of it, you\u2019ll still need one of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/audio\/home-cinema-audio\/tr-top-10-best-soundbars-1288008\">best soundbars<\/a>\u00a0if you want to get top-quality sound out of this TV \u2013 but the LG C2 sounded better than expected when used in its AI mode, so we&#8217;re sure the C3 will be &#8216;decent&#8217;, at least.<\/p>\n<p>Some changes to the smart platform include a sleek new homepage and improved user profiles to allow for more customization. When you set up the TV, you\u2019re guided through a custom picture preset to ensure the default settings work for your tastes, which is a nice touch.<\/p>\n<p>The C3 features four\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/new-faster-hdmi-21-cables-are-on-the-way-heres-what-you-need-to-know\">HDMI 2.1<\/a>\u00a0ports, including one that supports\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/hdmi-arc-vs-earc\">eARC<\/a>\u00a0(enhanced audio return channel) and two-way soundbar communication. These high-spec ports are great for gaming with next-gen consoles, while the screen boasts sub-10ms input lag and a negligible response time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s new this time is a feature called\u00a0<strong>Quick Media Switching VRR<\/strong>, so far unique to LG\u00a0OLED TVs (though it&#8217;s part of the HDMI spec), which LG says \u201ccan eliminate the momentary \u2018black screen\u2019 that sometimes occurs when switching between content played from different source devices connected via the TV\u2019s HDMI 2.1a compliant ports.\u201d So if you tend to jump between Netflix and your PS5 pretty often, this should make for a more seamless experience. There\u2019s not much change in this year\u2019s model, though, and older models will likely see a price cut as the C3 releases to market. With that in mind, there\u2019s not much reason to upgrade \u2013 we didn\u2019t see\u00a0<em>any<\/em>\u00a0of our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/features\/lg-c3-oled-tv-4-upgrades-we-expect-to-see\">predictions for a new C3 model<\/a>\u00a0come to fruition. Although an improved webOS experience, upgraded lighting algorithms, and fast media switching may be enough to nudge some towards the latest iteration of the C Series OLED, but probably not if you have the C2 or C1.<\/p>\n<p>The C3 is still the obvious, all-round choice from LG\u2019s OLED TV range \u2013 neither too expensive nor too compromised by its price point. But we\u2019ll have more thoughts on this in our review later in the year.
