Steelers<\/a><\/span>\u00a0linebacker\u00a0Alex Highsmith<\/a><\/span>\u00a0received criticism for his mock CPR sack celebration<\/a>\u00a0during the team\u2019s 28\u201314 win over the\u00a0Browns<\/a><\/span>\u00a0due to perceived insensitivity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Six days prior,\u00a0Bills<\/a><\/span>\u00a0safety\u00a0Damar Hamlin<\/a><\/span>\u00a0received CPR on the field after going into cardiac arrest<\/a>\u00a0during Monday Night Football. <\/em>Though the celebration has been used in the past, some fans did not respond positively to the timing of Highsmith\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

Highsmith has since clarified he didn\u2019t mean to draw any connection between the celebration and Hamlin\u2019s medical emergency. The linebacker told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette<\/em><\/a>\u00a0on Monday that he was tired at that point in the game and didn\u2019t think through the celebration.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just don’t want people to think of me that way and think I was doing anything [intentional],\u201d Highsmith said. \u201cBecause I would never, ever, ever, ever want to do that intentionally, and I never ever would do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like the rest of the league, Highsmith admitted that Hamlin\u2019s collapse on the field shook him up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want people to know that I have nothing but love for Damar and his family,\u201d Highsmith said. \u201cWhen that happened, I was shook for a couple days. Me and my wife, we were watching the game, we immediately saw it and intentionally started praying, intentionally prayed for him, his parents, the doctors, the nurses. …\u00a0I just want people to know that there was nothing intentional about that. It was never planned, none of that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Monday,\u00a0Hamlin was transported from a hospital in Cincinnati<\/a>, where he\u2019d been for a week, to a hospital in Buffalo. The 24-year-old continues to recover as he reportedly was able to walk around the hospital before leaving.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He has stayed active on social media<\/a> for the last few days as well, expressing how grateful he is for all the support around the league and from fans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
