Transgender male-to-female actor\u00a0Michaela Ja\u00e9 (\u201cMJ\u201d) Rodriguez received a standing ovation at the 80th Golden Globe Awards on Sunday in belated recognition for winning the Golden Globe for lead actress in a drama series last year for FX\u2019s Pose<\/em>.<\/p>\n

MJ Rodriguez was recognized by her Pose<\/em> producer Ryan Murphy during his acceptance speech for the Carol Burnett Award. In his speech, Murphy praised\u00a0Rodriguez for \u201cmaking history\u201d for being the \u201cfirst transgender actress ever to win a Golden Globe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s give her the ovation she deserves to hear,\u201d Murphy said.<\/p>\n

As Breitbart News reported<\/a>, Rodriguez\u2019s win at last year\u2019s (non-televised) ceremony deprived several real women of the award. The other nominees were Christine Baranski, Elisabeth Moss, Jennifer Aniston, and Uzo Aduba.<\/p>\n

Rodriguez landed on the cover of Entertainment Weekly<\/em>\u2018s Pride issue last year, with the quote \u201cMy job is to show them how much of a woman I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor\u2019s first major role was playing the character Angel, a male drag performer, in an off-Broadway production of Rent<\/em> in 2011. The actor reportedly still identified as male while performing in the musical and began transitioning shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n
