It\u2019s not surprising news, but it is welcome: Wednesday <\/em>has been officially renewed by Netflix. The streaming service apparently just wanted to keep everyone in suspense before dropping the announcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,\u201d said co-showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar in a statement. \u201cThrilled to continue Wednesday\u2019s tortuous journey into season two. We can\u2019t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn\u2019t emptied the pool first.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wednesday <\/em>has already become the third most-streamed show on Netflix, with only Squid Game <\/em>and Stranger Things <\/em>outpacing the Jenna Ortega-led dark comedy from director Tim Burton. With that level of streaming success, a second season was a foregone conclusion\u2014even if review scores fell a little short of both those shows.<\/p>\n

Stranger Things 1 <\/em>received a 97% RT score and a 96% audience score<\/a>; Squid Game <\/em>received a 95% critic score and an 83% audience score<\/a>; Wednesday<\/em>, while still \u201cFresh\u201d only received a 71% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics<\/a>, though the audience score of 86% was a bit higher than Squid Game.<\/em><\/p>\n

Netflix announced the renewal on social media:<\/p>\n

The announcement was not unexpected today thanks to a not-so-cryptic tweet from Netflix yesterday evening with a video of Wednesday at her typewriter under the caption \u201c??????\u201d<\/p>\n

I enjoyed the first season of Wednesday, <\/em>which I watched with my kids. They both enjoyed it a lot, though we all agreed that Ortega did most of the heavy lifting. The mystery was fun and certain episodes\u2014like the wonderful dance scene\u2014really elevated the show. All told, I\u2019m happy we\u2019re getting a second season. If only Netflix wasn\u2019t quite so quick to cancel less popular shows like 1899!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
