Blue Ivy Steals the Show in NEW PIC With Beyonce & Jay-Z<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Think back to how you rang in the new year back when you were in elementary school. Probably some variation of sparkling grape juice, those crinkly headbands that dig into your\u00a0scalp after roughly seven minutes and relentlessly begging your parents to let you stay up ’til midnight, right?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Which is absolutely what Blue Ivy Carter<\/strong><\/a> did to mark the start of 2020 except not at all because at just 11 years old she’s already cooler than pretty much everyone.<\/p>\n

Three years\u00a0ago, before the coronavirus torpedoed most social plans, Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> and Jay-Z<\/strong><\/a>‘s firstborn accompanied\u00a0them to a bash<\/a>\u00a0also attended by\u00a0Megan Thee Stallion<\/strong><\/a>, one\u00a0of 2019’s biggest success stories,\u00a0a musician who managed to launch an entire movement simply by declaring that people should own their confidence.<\/p>\n

But\u00a0with all deference to the Houston native (a three-time Grammy winner), in her Instagram upload with\u00a0two-thirds of the Carter clan, she’s entirely upstaged by the then-7-year-old, who had already mastered both her angles and\u00a0the ability to exude utter coolness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Because forget Hot Girl Summer, Blue Ivy’s entire existence<\/em> is a trend worth following.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Still\u00a0months away from middle school, she has already\u00a0claimed a BET Award<\/a> and an NAACP Image Award<\/a> (due to her songwriting credit on “Brown Skin Girl” off The Lion King: The Gift<\/em> album), a slot on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a>\u00a0(she also sings the\u00a0track’s\u00a0opening lyrics), an MTV VMA<\/a> and\u00a0a Grammy<\/a>, making her the youngest honoree ever,\u00a0and\u2014thanks to\u00a0a stylist<\/a>, an innate understanding about how one wears couture\u00a0and\u00a0a closet<\/a> full of Gucci and\u00a0Dolce & Gabbana creations\u2014her rightful spot on countless best dressed lists.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She managed to upstage Mom<\/a> in\u00a0both her highly anticipated\u00a0July 2020 visual album\u00a0Black Is King\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a02021’s\u00a0Adidas x Ivy Park campaign video<\/a>\u00a0and Grandma\u00a0Tina Knowles<\/strong><\/a> in her Mother’s Day ‘gram<\/a>. And\u00a0her\u00a0resume is more stacked than most thirtysomethings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She’s already an in-demand model<\/a>, an\u00a0audiobook narrator,<\/a>\u00a0and a beauty line,\u00a0skincare line, fashion line\u2014really any<\/em> line the\u00a0tween puts her stamp of approval on would sell out within minutes\u2014are presumed to be forthcoming eventually now that Mom and Dad\u00a0have worked through that whole trademark battle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Because their lawyers’ claims that Blue Ivy is\u00a0a “cultural icon”<\/a>\u00a0isn’t a hyperbole dreamt up by overly proud parents. She really is a pint-sized trendsetter “reported on by popular press, and whose name generates millions of hits on a Google search,” as their brief details.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Which is pretty much what everyone anticipated when music’s reigning queen and king\u2014Beyonc\u00e9 and Jay-Z having some\u00a052 Grammys\u00a0and\u00a020 number one albums between them\u2014welcomed their first heir exactly\u00a010 years ago on Jan. 7, 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Beyonc\u00e9’s decision to reveal her bump mid-performance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards ensured their offspring would be a scene stealer from the beginning. And by the time\u00a0the multi-hyphenate delivered at New York City’s Lenox Hill Hospital, the halls aswarm with her security detail, Baby Carter hysteria had reached a\u00a0heightened pitch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Perhaps that’s why, the couple, oft-guarded about the more personal aspects of their relationship,\u00a0have been generous with photos<\/a>, Beyonc\u00e9’s website generally the go-to spot to view the latest and greatest pictures of her kin.\u00a0It’s almost as if from\u00a0the beginning\u00a0the private twosome seemed to have understood that their most special creation was meant to be shared with the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At just two days old,\u00a0Blue Ivy had already made her first recording, Jay using her adorable newborn coos and cries on his “Glory” track, making B.I.C., as she was credited, the youngest to ever appear on Billboard’s charts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But despite\u00a0that splashy debut,\u00a0and her plainly obvious destiny, Jay has said his goals for her\u00a0were quite humble. As he shared in a 2017 interview with T, The New York Times Style Magazine<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0his chief task as a father was\u00a0to instill\u00a0an empathy for others and\u00a0the ability to understand just how fortunate they were. Because it’s not as if he could\u2014or would even want to\u2014recreate his childhood, where he had to scrap for every opportunity growing up\u00a0amid the drugs and violence in Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“There’s a delicate balance to that, right? Because you have to educate your children on the world as it exists today and how it got to that space, but my child doesn’t need the same tools that I needed growing up. I needed certain tools to survive my area that my child doesn’t need. They’re growing up in a different environment,” he shared in a sit-down mere months after\u00a0he and his wife welcomed now-5-year-old twins Rumi<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and Sir Carter<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“But also they have to know their history,” he continued. “Have a sense of what it took to get to this place. And have compassion for others. The most important thing I think out of all this is to teach compassion and to identify with everyone’s struggle and to know these people made these sacrifices for us to be where we are and to push that forward\u2014for us.”<\/p>\n

He had the means to literally give them the world,\u00a0Jay acknowledged, but he was more interested in\u00a0making sure they absorbed certain life lessons. “Treat people as they are, no matter who they are, no matter where they sit in the world, not to, like, be super nice to someone at a high position or mean to someone who they’ve deemed to be below them,” he explained. “I can’t buy you love, I can’t show it to you. I can show you affection and I can, you know, I can express love, but I can’t put it in your hand. I can’t put compassion in your hand. I can’t show you that. So the most beautiful things are things that are invisible. That’s where the important things lie.”\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

And when you’ve worked as hard as the native of Brooklyn’s\u00a0Bedford-Stuyvesant\u00a0neighborhood and his Houston-bred wife to build an empire, well, you should be allowed to enjoy it. So at age 11, Blue Ivy\u2014along with her little brother and sister\u2014has already checked off more dream destinations than most adults, having tagged along on trips to\u00a0Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Paris and, really,\u00a0all across Europe<\/a> as she took part in the Carter’s 2018 On The Run II tour.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She is<\/em> the bold-faced name, cooly\u00a0attempting to outbid<\/a> Tyler Perry<\/strong><\/a> for\u00a0a $20,000 acrylic painting at Grandma Tina Knowles’ 2018 Wearable Art Gala, helping induct her father<\/a>\u00a0into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and reminding Mom and Dad to shut it\u00a0down<\/a>\u00a0when they got too excited cheering for\u00a0Camila Cabello<\/strong><\/a>‘s call for immigration reform\u00a0at the\u00a02018 Grammys.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At\u00a0Blue’s age, Beyonc\u00e9 was showing off her hours of basement rehearsals by winning countless talent shows and Jay was nursing the love of words that would help him become a lyrical genius. The 11-year-old already possesses both talents, as evidenced by her performances and the freestyle rap Dad included on his 4:44<\/em> album, plus the sort of limitless potential and opportunities granted few budding young artists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I died and was reborn in my relationship, and the quest for self became even stronger.”<\/p>\n

So she approaches each new challenge with this in mind, turning her headlining gig at 2018’s Coachella, for example, into an unabashed celebration of African American culture.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“As a black woman, I used to feel like the world wanted me to stay in my little box and black women often feel underestimated. I wanted us to be proud of not only the show, but the process, proud of the struggle, thankful for the beauty that comes with a painful history and rejoice in the pain, rejoice in the imperfections and the wrongs that are so damn right,” she explained in her Netflix doc. “I wanted everyone to feel grateful for their curves, their sass, their honesty, thankful for their freedom. It was no rules and we were able to create a free, safe space where none of us were marginalized.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In the end, she shared, she felt as if she’d\u00a0“made something that made my daughter proud, made my mother proud, my father proud, all of the people that are my brothers and sisters around the world.”<\/p>\n

And beyond that, she’s helped create a world where Blue, still years away from being able to drive a car, can confidently proclaim, she’s “Never seen a ceiling in my whole life.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
