Entertainment The RIAA submits a 2022 lobbying disclosure report to raise \u2018artificial intelligence\u2019 as a \u2018specific lobbying issue\u2019 with the United States government.<\/span><\/h2>\nThe RIAA, representing the Big Three (Warner Music Group<\/a>, Universal Music Group<\/a>, and Sony Music Entertainment<\/a>), has recently\u00a0<\/span>reported<\/span><\/a>\u00a0several AI-music mixing platforms to the United States Trade Representative. The goal is to have them listed as upcoming threats in the USTR\u2019s \u201cNotorious Markets\u201d report. Additionally, a 2022 lobbying disclosure\u00a0<\/span>report<\/span><\/a>\u00a0shows that RIAA lobbyists have raised AI as a \u201cspecific lobbying issue\u201d with the US government.<\/span><\/p>\nThe RIAA is a member of the Copyright Alliance, which lobbies the government on behalf of its members and recently expressed concerns that AI-generated works collide with copyright law. A\u00a0<\/span>GoFundMe campaign<\/span><\/a>\u00a0launched by the\u00a0<\/span>Concept Art Association<\/span><\/a>\u00a0has surfaced intending to raise funds to pay a lobbyist to \u201ceducate government officials and policymakers\u201d on the threat to the creative industries that is AI-generated artwork. The Concept Art Association has said a portion of the funds will also go to the Copyright Alliance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nOther issues raised in the RIAA\u2019s report included those in the Notorious Markets report<\/a>, intellectual property theft in general, enforcement of IP law, DMCA-related issues, and proposals related to content filtering.<\/span><\/h4>\n Between January and September last year, the RIAA\u00a0<\/span>appeared<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in 15 government lobbying reports with a total declared lobbying expenditure (covered by its associates) of nearly $5.4 million. The RIAA has not spent more on lobbying since 2018.<\/span><\/p>\nSimilarly, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) lobbied on 22 separate issues between January and September, with reports featuring copyright, patent, trademark, trade, defense, and emergency planning issues.
