This is TPM\u2019s Morning Memo.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Everything You Need To Know<\/h2>\n<p>While it couldn\u2019t manage to elect a speaker, the new GOP majority in the House did manage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/01\/03\/house-gop-removes-metal-detectors-jan-6\">to remove immediately<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jordainc\/status\/1610324095522029571\">magnetometers<\/a> installed at the entrances to the chamber after the Jan. 6 attack:<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<h2>What\u2019s Next?<\/h2>\n<p>After he failed on three separate votes to win the speakership yesterday, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) will try again today when the House reconvenes at noon.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy did not consolidate support Tuesday. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepRaskin\/status\/1610363527172063232\">flavor of the day<\/a> from the Democratic side: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This once-in-a-century humiliation of a party\u2019s nominee for Speaker is chickens coming home to roost for McCarthy, who whitewashed right-wing insurrectionism on the House floor.
