19-year-old USC tight end and Cross high grad arrested in Moncks Corner (WCIV)
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) — A University of South Carolina football player who graduated from Cross High School has been granted a personal recognizance bond following his arrest early Monday morning in Moncks Corner.
Nineteen-year-old Caden Ramsey, a freshman tight end for the Gamecocks, appeared virtually before a judge Monday evening after being booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center on a charge of racing on a public road.
According to Moncks Corner Police, Ramsey was arrested and booked shortly after 4 a.m. The charge carries potential penalties that include up to six months in jail, a fine exceeding $1,000 and the possible revocation of a driver’s license if convicted.
During the bond hearing, Ramsey’s attorney requested that he be released on a personal recognizance bond, arguing that the college student has no prior criminal record, is not a flight risk and does not pose a danger to the community.
The judge granted the request, allowing Ramsey to be released without paying bond up front, provided he appears for all future court proceedings.
South Carolina Athletics said it is aware of the situation and takes matters involving student-athletes seriously. The university said it is reserving further comment at this time.
Ramsey enrolled at USC during the summer of 2026 after a standout career at Cross High School. According to his profile on the South Carolina football website, he led the Trojans to an 11-2 record in 2025 and helped the team reach the SCHSL Class A Lower State championship game.
He was also selected to play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas and earned Class A all-state honors from the South Carolina Football Coaches Association.
Authorities have not yet released details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest or where the alleged racing incident occurred. Moncks Corner Police have said additional information, including an incident report and a statement, is expected to be released Tuesday.
