New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for greater opportunities for Ghanaian youth, acknowledging the challenges many face in finding jobs, starting businesses and securing a stable future.
In a message marking International Youth Day, Dr. Bawumia said young Ghanaians, despite their different backgrounds, share common aspirations, including finding decent work, building businesses and living with dignity.
However, he noted that these aspirations are being challenged by limited job opportunities and the high cost of starting and sustaining businesses, leaving many young people uncertain about their future.
According to Dr. Bawumia, Ghana’s youthful population remains one of the country’s greatest strengths, with young people demonstrating talent, determination and ambition across various sectors.
He said policymakers have a responsibility to create opportunities that match the ambitions of young Ghanaians and enable them to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.
“Different contexts, common aspirations and a shared belief that Ghana can be a place where young people build the future they want,” Dr. Bawumia said in a Facebook post made on Wednesday, August 12.
He further urged Ghanaians to remain confident in the ability of the country’s youth to shape its future, despite the economic and employment challenges they currently face.
