Nigeria’s $8.5m Adidas kit deal: Where it ranks among Africa’s biggest jersey pact

Nigeria’s return to Adidas could possibly change the kit business in African football, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has agreed an $8.5 million-a-year deal with the German sportswear giant, according to ESPN. The agreement will start in 2027 and will end Nigeria’s 11-year relationship with Nike.

The package includes $4.5 million in cash and $4 million worth of kits and equipment each year. It covers Nigeria’s national teams, including the Super Eagles, Super Falcons and youth teams.

That puts Nigeria at No. 1 in Soccernet’s ranking based on African kit deals with publicly reported financial figures.

1. Nigeria: The Super Eagles have a clear lead on published numbers. The $8.5m package is almost three times Senegal’s reported $3m deal. The cash part alone, $4.5m, is higher than the total reported annual value of several rival agreements.

2. Senegal: Puma’s return to the Teranga Lions before the 2018 World Cup came with a deal reported at about $3m per year. Senegal had just qualified for Russia 2018, giving the partnership strong commercial value.

3. Cameroon: One All Sports agreed to pay €1.5m per year and provide another €1m in equipment. The deal was supposed to run for three years, but the Cameroon federation ended it in August 2024 after a dispute over the company’s commitments.

4. Algeria: The Fennecs’ Adidas agreement was reported at about €1.927m per year, with equipment also included. Algeria has since continued its Adidas relationship and wore Adidas kits at the 2026 World Cup.

5. Morocco: Puma agreed to pay the Royal Moroccan Football Federation €1.5m per year in its 2019 deal, before bonuses linked to results in major competitions. Morocco’s rise to the 2022 World Cup semifinals has since increased its commercial appeal.

The numbers give Nigeria a strong commercial position, but the deal arrives at a difficult point for the country’s football teams.

The Super Eagles missed the 2026 World Cup after finishing behind South Africa in qualifying. The Super Falcons also lost their route to the 2027 Women’s World Cup after their 2026 continental campaign. That makes the commercial size of the Adidas deal even more striking.

Nigeria’s new agreement also improves sharply on its reported Nike terms. The old contract provided $500,000 in cash and $1m in equipment each year. The new $4.5m cash payment is nine times the old cash figure.

There is another part of the deal that could make it more valuable. Nigeria is reported to receive 20% of Adidas store sales in the country. Strong demand for Super Eagles shirts could therefore add income beyond the guaranteed package.

That gives Nigeria a simple target. The NFF must turn a record commercial deal into better preparation, better equipment and stronger national teams. The shirt has already become one of Nigeria’s strongest football brands. The next step is making the money behind it work just as well.
