Amorim: Milan paid a lot of money because Ramos scores goals

AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim praised the performance of Goncalo Ramos in their win over Venezia, saying “we paid a lot of money because he scores goals”.

Ramos netted the opener in what was his San Siro debut, while a late own goal from Redouane Halhal secured a 2-0 win for the Rossoneri.

Ramos, whose transfer fee could reportedly rise to €80m, became the fifth striker to score on his home debut for Milan in Serie A across the last 10 seasons, after Olivier Giroud, Alvaro Morata, Tammy Abraham and Santiago Gimenez.

The Portugal international has also scored three goals in his last six home appearances in Europe’s top five leagues, as many goals as in his previous 12 home games.

However, it was not a clinical display, with Ramos scoring with just one of his eight shots, which was just one fewer than the whole Venezia team managed.

Nevertheless, Amorim was pleased with his forward’s performance, insisting he offers more than just his goals.

“Of course he’s a striker, we paid a lot of money because he scores goals, but the way he plays, works, connects the game, that means a lot,” Ramos told DAZN Italia.

“Sometimes it looks like we have two guys breaking the line, but it’s just Goncalo Ramos.

“The way he didn’t score big opportunities, he was composed for the third one and free to score a goal. That shows he is an experienced player, he’s not thinking about the missed chances, he’s thinking about the next one.”

Milan have won back-to-back Serie A games for just the fourth time in 2026, the first since last March (2-0 v Cremonese and 1-0 v Inter).

The Rossoneri accumulated 2.21 expected goals (xG) from their 16 shots, and Ramos believes their new philosophy was on show against Venezia.

“It’s clear on the pitch our DNA, our new mentality, we want to play football and win every game, but at the same time we want to enjoy our football,” said Ramos.

“We are here to win, but also to have fun. It is very easy to be here, everyone helps me every day, I feel at home already and that’s an amazing feeling.”
