The New York Giants mean business. They’re not playing around anymore. That’s the message this team sent when they signed John Harbaugh to take over as head coach and make any changes that he saw appropriate.
Harbaugh has more experience than almost anyone in the NFL. He was with the Baltimore Ravens for 18 seasons before getting his pink slip. He also won a Super Bowl with them.
Can he do it in New York? That’s the question. But, he’s getting a warning that it may not be a piece of cake.
Giants’ big break ‘might be a season away’
In a piece for Yahoo Sports, Frank Schwab warned Harbaugh that he has to help quarterback Jaxson Dart learn to protect himself on the field.
“Dart’s rookie season story can’t be told without a discussion about how often he ended up in the medical tent,” Schwab said. “Dart took some massive hits and at times he wore it like a badge of honor.”
So, Dart needs to learn to better protect himself in critical situations.
“Dart’s talent is exciting,” Schwab said. “He has the look of a long-term starter. But his development won’t go far if he’s missing games.”
Schwab also noted that while “the Giants will start to resemble a professional operation under John Harbaugh,” a true surge “might be a season away.”
Will it really take a year for the Giants to turn around?
A season is an eternity in the NFL, but for the Giants, they’ve already been waiting for a turnaround and likely don’t mind having to wait a bit more, so long as it happens.
Seriously. This is a franchise that was 4-13 last season and 3-14 the season before. They’re used to waiting. If they have to wait one more year but actually get a winning team, that’s not too much of an ask.
But, frankly, don’t be surprised if the Giants make huge leaps in 2026. Harbaugh has already revamped this lineup in a major way, and he only knows success. He could turn things around much quicker than expected.
