Forget ‘The Odyssey,’ moviegoers can’t stop talking about the terrifying ‘Other Mommy’ trailer

Moviegoers hitting the theaters over the weekend to see “The Odyssey” were caught off guard when they were treated to the unexpected jumpscares in the “Other Mommy” trailer.

The trailer for the horror film — which stars Jessica Chastain as a mother named Ursula and her sinister demon doppelganger — pre-empted the Matt Damon-led film (both movies come from Universal Studios), which was released July 17, in theaters across the country.

The official trailer was released online Tuesday.

“I was waiting for ‘The Odyssey’ to start and then Jessica Chastain’s head and contorted body popped out from under a table and I jump a foot in the air,” one X user wrote.

“I like to think I’m desensitized to most jump scares. That fu–kin table scene totally got me 😅😅😬” another added.

“The way people during my two screenings of ‘The Odyssey’ this weekend were screaming during this trailer for #OtherMommy….@blumhouse [is] gonna have a fun hit on their hands,” someone else tweeted.

Meanwhile, a fourth netizen added: “What in the name of hell was that other mommy trailer right before the odyssey played😭,”

“There’s literally no reason for us to be jumpscared jessica chastain at 10am, like half of my theater got spooked.”

The film, based on the New York Times bestselling novel “Incidents Around the House,” follows: “Bela, an 8-year-old girl living in a home with marital problems, confronts a sinister entity that comes out of her closet. The presence, who she calls ‘Other Mommy,’ becomes increasingly threatening to her and her family,” according to IMDB.

The Oscar winner is joined among the cast by Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen.

The movie serves as a return to the horror genre for Chastain. She previously starred in “Take Shelter” (2011), “Mama” (2013), “Crimson Peak” (2015) and “It: Chapter Two” (2019).

“Other Mommy” is scheduled to premiere in theaters on Oct. 9.
