Payday Is Getting A TV Show With 50 Cent As Executive Producer

Starbreeze Entertainment is making a TV series out of its co-op bank-robbing simulator, Payday. While we don’t have any details on when the show is coming out or where it’ll air, we do know, courtesy of Variety, that Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has signed on to be an executive producer.

“Payday has always been about the fantasy of getting away with it. Curtis and G-Unit don’t do subtle, and neither do we,” said Starbreeze Entertainment CEO Adolf Kristjansson in the announcement.

Jackson’s production company, G-Unit Film & TV, will partner with Payday studio Starbreeze Entertainment and Vice Productions to make the show. It’s a good get. G-Unit has already produced a successful franchise of crime dramas on Starz — the Power series, in which Jackson himself sometimes appears as one of the principal characters.

With Payday, Jackson and his production partners will trade building a drug empire for robbing banks. It’ll be interesting to see how the show manages to capture the chaos typical of a Payday heist, or if they’ll try to make a serious, prestige-y show out of it. After the rough launch of Payday 3 in 2023, the series has quietly plugged along with a VR title, Payday Aces High, releasing later this year. The VR game and the new television series is part of an effort to expand the Payday franchise beyond the base games.
