Tether

Moves by Tether appear to be occurring in two directions, bolstering its reserves while venturing into the blockchain infrastructure services sector in one of the most rapidly developing regions for digital assets in the Middle East.

Less than a week after boosting its physical gold reserves in the second quarter of 2026, it has announced its plan to launch the Hadron tokenization platform in Saudi Arabia, pointing to its increasing emphasis on assets other than USDT.

Gold Reserves for Tether Grow as Financial Position Strengthens

In the second quarter, the stablecoin purchased 14 tonnes of physical gold that raised their reserves above 146 tonnes.

The purchase was made in the wake of $1.5 billion worth of operating profits and an additional reserve cushion of $4.11 billion, which demonstrates the growing financial strength of the company.

Tether Expands Its Footing to Saudi Arabia

The partnership places Hadron by Tether right at the center of Saudi Arabia’s institutional approach to real estate tokenization. First Data will handle commercial operations and asset issuance, while BKN301 will help with banking connectivity.

“At Tether, we believe real-world asset tokenization will redefine the financial industry.”

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, said, adding that Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 makes the country an ideal market to demonstrate the impact of platforms like Hadron by Tether.

The Bigger Strategy Behind the Expansion

The news demonstrates that the stablecoin is beginning to see itself as more than just a stablecoin issuer.

With its Hadron project, the company aims to address the rapidly rising demand for real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, an effort to tokenize real estate, bonds, commodities, funds, and other assets on blockchain networks.

Tokenization could increase liquidity for these assets, as well as expand access to them for institutional investors.

Positive Financial Performance Creates a Platform

The Saudi Arabia expansion comes less than a week after Tether announced its Q2 2026 attestation, reporting $1.5 billion in net operating profit, a $4.11 billion reserve buffer, and an increase in physical gold holdings to more than 146 tons.

USDT’s circulating supply also grew to approximately $184.6 billion, accounting for more than 60% of the global stablecoin market.

Why Such a Step Matters

This partnership is part of Stablecoin’s overall strategy to develop financial infrastructure beyond the creation of stablecoins while leveraging growing institutional interest in tokenized real-world assets.

Should the Saudi project prove successful, it could create opportunities for additional tokenization projects in areas such as infrastructure and energy.
