Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has lost a major Süper Lig record following the arrival of Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian striker completed a blockbuster permanent transfer to the Turkish top-flight last summer from Napoli. Galatasaray paid €75 million for Osimhen in what remains a record purchase fee for a Süper Lig club, as well as the club’s third-most expensive sale of all time.

Away from the transfer fee, Galatasaray made a major financial commitment by making Osimhen the highest-paid player in the history of the Süper Lig, handing him a net salary of €15 million plus an extra €1 million in bonuses.

This translates to €288,462 every week — a lucrative package that rivals what some of the top stars in Europe’s elite leagues earn and was in fact the highest any player has gotten in the history of the league. However, with Salah now in Turkey, Osimhen has been pushed down to second place.

Soccer What is Mohamed Salah’s Salary in Trabzonspor?

Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has been strongly linked with Süper Lig side Trabzonspor, and the deal has now been sealed.

The 34-year-old forward landed in Turkey amid massive fanfare, which is quite usual for Turkish clubs. Trabzonspor did not pay a transfer fee, as Salah arrived as a free agent fresh off his departure from Liverpool.

However, the club has handed the Egyptian a blockbuster package. Salah signed a one-year (plus extra year extension) deal that keeps him at the club until 2028, headlined by a reported net salary of €17 million after tax.

He will also receive 20% of the revenue generated from merchandise sales linked directly to his image, alongside other performance bonuses.

Since Trabzonspor are not traditionally the wealthiest club in Turkey, his massive wages will reportedly be split between the club and corporate sponsors.

This lucrative deal has broken Osimhen’s previous record. It is a record that will likely stand for quite some time, as it is unlikely that Osimhen will sign a renewal to increase his pay anytime soon, especially given reports that Galatasaray struggled to meet his wage demands last season.

Soccer Victor Osimhen vs Salah in Turkey: Who Wins?

With Mohammed Salah now confirmed as the highest paid player in Turkey, it now remains to be seen who will shine brightest on the pitch.

Last season, Trabzonspor finished third in the Super Lig, but claimed the Turkish Cup. Now, with this investment in Salah, they will be looking to do even better next season.

Salah is expected to be a game-changer for the Black Sea Storm as they challenge for the Süper Lig title and chase a deep run in the UEFA Europa League.

Meanwhile, Osimhen will be aiming to maintain his consistency and guide Galatasaray to a fifth consecutive league title alongside a strong campaign in the UEFA Champions League. The Super Eagles star has established himself as a leader at Galatasaray so he has to play a key role for the club.

With the arrival off quality players like Mason Greenwood, Salah, and Leandro Trossard, he has to stamp his authority and show why he is regarded as one of the best in the world.
