The U.S. Men’s National Team’s September-October window has been decided.
Mauricio Pochettino’s second spell as USMNT head coach will begin with friendlies against Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Canada, U.S. Soccer announced Tuesday. The matches will take place on September 26, Sept. 29, October 3, and Oct. 6 respectively across four different venues and locations.
Inter.co Stadium in Orlando, Florida will host the USMNT-Peru showdown before the scene shifts to St. Louis, Missouri for USMNT-Chile at Energizer Park.
A showdown with El Tri comes next for the USMNT at State Farm Stadium on Oct. 3 before the four-match window concludes three days later at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota against Canada.
“We are so excited to start this new phase of our journey with matches in front of our home fans. Their amazing energy during the summer has set the standard,” said Pochettino. “We expect our players to compete with the mentality that every game is critical, and they must show the passion and commitment our fans deserve. Our objective is always to play the best opponents possible, and these matches provide a variety of experiences for this group of players as we begin this new chapter of the U.S Men’s National Team.”
All four matches will take place during FIFA’s new international window format switch. FIFA combined the match schedules of September-October rather than continue the past format of having club matches occur in between the two windows.
Pochettino will prepare the USMNT for the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals, which are slated to take place this November.
In addition, the USMNT will use these four matches as strong preparation for the start of World Cup Qualifying next year.
