Stones ‘very hungry to win’ with Inter

John Stones is “very hungry to win again” following his move to Inter.

Stones completed a free transfer to Inter on Thursday, with the centre-back signing a two-year deal following the expiration of his contract at Manchester City.

The 32-year-old won 17 major trophies during his time with City, including six Premier League titles and the club’s maiden Champions League crown in 2023.

He made 295 appearances for City following his reported £50m move from Everton in 2016, though he followed the likes of Pep Guardiola and Bernardo Silva out the door at the end of last season.

Stones will now look to help Inter add more trophies to their cabinet, and the England international’s motivation has not dropped since leaving Manchester.

“I feel a lot of emotions, to be honest,” Stones told club media.

“An overwhelming feeling of happiness and pride. Excitement to start this new chapter, this new journey, and what a place to do it.

“Definitely [moving abroad] is something that I have always wanted to do. When this opportunity came up, I spoke with my family, and we didn’t hesitate to come here.

“I’m someone who’s very hungry to win again. I think that’s first and foremost.

“I’ve been very, very lucky and fortunate to have won so many things in the past, and I want to bring that experience here and help the team, help the club.

“I’m very excited and, hopefully, I can bring all my attributes. I’m very, very open to learning new things and a new way of football and a new league.”

Stones is Inter’s fourth arrival of the transfer window, after Ivan Provedel, Aleksandar Stankovic and the permanent signing of Manuel Akanji.

Stones could make his Inter debut on August 22, when Cristian Chivu’s side begin their Serie A title defence against Monza.
