Former Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars have confirmed the appointment of Olumide Ajibolade as their new head coach, Soccernet.ng reports.
Remo are coming off a disastrous campaign in the Nigerian top flight that saw them relegated, despite having won the same league the season prior.
Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede held the position, but that was largely on paper, as he was rarely on the sidelines to lead the team. He was always away, either on national assignment with the Super Eagles or obtaining coaching certifications.
The club later appointed Abdu Makaiba to try and rescue their season, but his efforts were unsuccessful.
Both Makaiba and Ogunmodede have since left the club, leaving the coaching position vacant. As Soccernet.ng previously reported, Ajibolade was a leading candidate for the job.
The club has now officially confirmed the appointment of the 34-year-old tactician as their new boss.
Soccer Can Olumide Ajibolade Lead Remo Stars Back to the NPFL?
Though only 34 years of age, Olumide Ajibolade is no slouch. He is widely regarded as one of the country’s finest youth coaches.
He has managed Remo Stars’ feeder team, Beyond Limits, since 2021, enjoying remarkable success. Under his guidance, the team has won multiple Creative Championship (TCC) titles, the Ogun State FA Cup, the Viareggio Cup, and most recently, the Gothia Cup.
Crucially, he led Beyond Limits to victory in the Nigeria National League (NNL) and secured promotion to the NPFL in 2024. Consequently, he understands the demands of the league and knows what it takes to guide a team to promotion.
Also, Ajibolade is already deeply familiar with the club’s culture, having spent the last five years within the organization.
Judging by his impressive track record, Remo Stars will undoubtedly be the team to beat in the NNL next season.
