Super Falcons of Nigeria begin their quest for an unprecedented 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title on Tuesday night, taking on tournament debutants Malawi in the Group C opener at Stade El Barid in Rabat, Soccernet.ng reports.

Justine Madugu’s Super Falcons return to Morocco barely a year after lifting the trophy on the same soil, and arrive as Africa’s highest-ranked side and the continent’s most successful women’s national team.
The champions head into the tournament full of confidence following a 2-1 win over Tanzania in their final warm-up game, though the squad did take a blow with defender Ashleigh Plumptre ruled out after failing to recover from a long-term injury.
There was better news on the eve of the opener, with Washington Spirit duo Deborah Abiodun and Gift Monday overcoming travel delays from the United States to link up with the squad in Morocco in time for kick-off.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala are all fit and available for Madugu to select from.
Malawi, nicknamed the Scorchers, are making their first-ever appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and go into the game on the back of a heavy 4-0 defeat to Ghana in their final friendly.
Coach Lovemore Fazili’s side will lean heavily on the pace and finishing of sisters Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga, with the Kansas City Current forward Temwa in particular seen as Malawi’s biggest threat on the counter.
History favours Nigeria heading in, with the sides having met only twice before, both during 2014 African Women’s Championship qualifying, with the Super Falcons drawing 1-1 away before winning 2-0 at home.
