Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma is set to join newly promoted Italian Serie A club Frosinone, Soccernet.ng reports.

Born in Germany, Akpoguma has spent his entire professional career playing in the country. He started his football journey in the Karlsruher academy and progressed through the ranks before joining Hoffenheim in 2013.

Following his arrival, he spent time on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 before finally establishing himself in the senior setup in 2019.

The 31-year-old was a regular squad member until Christian Ilzer took over as manager two years ago.

Last season marked the final year of his contract, and it was made clear to him that his deal would not be extended. Consequently, he was relegated to a peripheral role, featuring in just nine matches. In fact, Akpoguma logged only 70 minutes of action throughout the entire campaign.

The end of the 2025/26 season saw Akpoguma become a free agent. Although he was linked with several clubs, he ultimately opted for a fresh start in Italy.

According to transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Frosinone have reached a full agreement to sign the defender. The specific details of the center-back’s contract are expected to be announced in the coming days as he prepares to link up with his new teammates.

He is expected to play a key role for the club as they battle to maintain their top-flight status upon their return to Serie A.

Akpoguma joins compatriot Akor Adams, who completed a record-breaking move to another newly promoted club, Venezia, last week.

The former Hoffenheim player has earned eight caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. Although he represented Germany at various youth levels, he switched his international allegiance after failing to break into the senior Die Mannschaft squad.

Akpoguma made his debut for Nigeria in October 2020, but his most recent appearance came in June 2023.
