FDA Announces Recall of Ola-Ola Pounded Yam Over Undeclared Milk Allergen

The United States Food and Drug Administration has published a recall notice for Ola-Ola Pounded Yam after the product was found to contain undeclared milk in the form of sodium caseinate.

According to the FDA notice published on July 7, 2026, Fayus Inc., doing business as Yusol International Foods in Sacramento, California, voluntarily recalled the product because the milk-derived ingredient was not declared on the label. The FDA said the recall followed an internal investigation which found that some packaged Ola-Ola Pounded Yam products were distributed in packaging that failed to disclose the presence of sodium caseinate.

The company said the problem resulted from a temporary breakdown in its production and packaging processes. The FDA warned that people who have a milk allergy or severe sensitivity to milk could face a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the affected product. However, no illness or injury had been reported as of the announcement.

The affected Ola-Ola Pounded Yam was distributed between December 2025 and May 2026 through outlets in Canada, Australia and six U.S. states: California, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Texas.

The recalled product is packaged in a clear bag and can be identified by expiration dates ranging from November 2028 through May 2029. The FDA said the recall applies only to products within those expiration dates where the dairy allergen is not listed on the label.

The company said it is working to apply dairy allergen warning stickers to affected products still on store shelves.

Consumers with milk allergy or sensitivity have been advised not to eat the affected product. They may return it to the place of purchase for an exchange for a correctly labelled product or one carrying the appropriate warning sticker.

Canadian food safety authorities had earlier issued a similar recall warning for Ola-Ola brand Authentic Pounded Yam over undeclared milk, advising consumers who are allergic or sensitive to milk not to consume the recalled product. The Canadian notice also advised that recalled products should not be served, used, sold or distributed.
